Hi,

My name is Brenda and I have been an LPN for 25 years. I work in a small rural hospital. I also am certified in Gastroenterology (CGN). I work primarily in Endoscopy procedures now but have worked Med-Surg nursing for 15 years.

I have always wanted to get my college degree. ISU is perfect for me. I am not in a hurry and am not doing this for the money (altho a raise will be nice).

I started 2 years ago with no credits. I have done the following:

A&P, Micro, Pathophys,Eng. Comp, Intro to Soc, Intro to Psych, Lifespan Dev. Psych,Gerontology,Inf. Sys./Computer App and will be testing out of American History 1 next week.

My plan is to get all other non-nursing classes done so when I enroll in ISU, I will have Phase 2 and just nursing classes left.

This is a great way for us to communicate so lets use this!

Sincerely, Brenda

Hi , I'm Kathryn.

I've just finished up LVN school, studying for the Nclex and have started on the TCN modules for ISU BSN general study part. I'm in California so ISU is the only program available to me.

Brenda , what an accomplishment, how many more do you need to get to the nursing part. I have to do ALL the general ed, so quite a job ahead for me. I started with PATHO for my first test, just because it interests me so. I'd love to hear your experience with A & P that one and Chemistry look overwheming. How hard were they?

Hi Brenda and Kathryn and way to go Eric!!!!!

I have been a LPN for nearly 4 years and I work for Hospice and do PRN at at local nursing home.

I love what ISU has to offer and cant wait to get to that part. BUT>>. I just started and have a ways to go. Im taking Sociology now and plan to tackle Algebra next. I hate math so I figured I would just get them out of the way and relax.

Thank goodness I have a son that is pretty awesome in Math, so maybe he can help his dear ole mom!

I truly hope we keep this going. Its nice communicating with others who are doing the same thing.

Good Luck and Keep in touch.

Same here. I started my modules last month. I just graduated from LVN school on May and taking my NCLEX this month. I have no college credits, so basically I'm starting from scratch. Right now I'm studying Introduction to World Religions. I have a long way for BSN =D

Hi,

Getting what classes are required is hard to get thru ISU. They consistently tell me to contact TCN.

TCN provides a nice grid as to what courses are required and what tests are available. I have not paid TCN a penney for the info I have got. There are also 50 credits that have to be upper level college courses to graduate from ISU. 39 are provided when you take their nursing courses, but you must make sure you have an additional 12 credits or 4 courses that are upper level. I would hate to see people having to take extra classes.

Have a great day!

Brenda

Brenda,

TCN provides these courses that ISU requires. But you have tobuy them from them. Just for them I think its close to $3000.

I went for the whole package, works for me that way and it is included in what Im paying. I know some are finding deals on ebay, but...I just felt better about doing it this way. Hopefully everyone will reach the same goal....BSN.

Kim,

Different things will work for different people. I have 2 kids in college and so I must go the cheapest way possible. We all have the same goal..a college degree.

Please keep me posted on your progress. I haven't heard from anyone who has actually taken a test from one of the 4 modules yet.

Sincerely, Brenda

Well, Im not there yet, and Im taking my time. The test's scare me and Im a good student. I just dont want to have to wait 6 mths to retake it if I fail it. Anyway, Like you I have not heard from anyone here who has taken that Phase2 part. WOuld love to though.

I have 2 boys in College too! ( and 2 more coming up behind them...) Its a house full of Students. Kind of fun though, and one of my son's is someone who takes Calculus as an elective, so he helps me with my math ALOT, because he didnt get the math genious from me! Take care !

Ok. So I don't quite fit into this thread, but I'm a grad student at ISU. If anybody is looking for someone to talk to I'm here!

I'm an LPN but have been picking away at my degree here and there over the years of being a SAHM. I'm finishing up the last few things and plan on submitting my ISU application package in the next couple of weeks. Starting the phase 2 modules as soon as I get these last couple of tests finished up so I'm ready to start testing as soon as I find out I'm in. :)

Hi guys,

I passed my American History CLEP exam.

I am taking the week-end off and will be starting Algebra Monday. I have a college Algebra book and some good web sites. I have no idea how long it will take me.

I also priced out the textbooks ISU uses in the traditional classroom for the four TCN Phase 2 modules. They come to around $500. So when the time comes for me, I will try the first of four tests using textbooks instead of TCN.If it is too hard, I will then have to use TCN. I am hopeful I will not have to.

Brenda
