Nursing Students Online Learning

This is not really an informative thread I guess, but here it goes. I have been a member her for quite a few years, I think my profile says 2004, but it was before that b/c I was a member here before that but I forgot my old username. And, eventhough I have quite a few issues with it AN, is wat led me to my current path, at Excelsior. Before AN I don't think I had ever even heard of EC.

Anyway, to my point, in all of the time I spent here I've seen a lot of distance students come and go. Some, some stayed at EC but just faded away from ere, some just graduated and left the DL board (CONGRATS to all of them btw), some graduated and left AN completely, and some dropped out and choose a different path and left AN. This also goes for the other DL programs, like Deaconess.

Now, I spend a lot of time just coming to the board and looking. Most of the time I don't have the time to post, sometimes I just like to observe. But, I've noticed that I just don't see the types of posts tat I used to. Or maybe it's just me.

Okay, now really on to my point. I know that this at times can make students feel alone (I know I do). I mean I don't anyone to study with, but just "knowing" who your classmates are is nice. Now there is always EPN for EC students, but I personally don't care for it much (too much to deal with with pop ups and all), and therefore, don't go on it unless I'm am looking for a specific answer (which I usually don't find).

So this thread is just for us all to chime in, so everyone knows they are not alone in our own element of AN so to speak.

I encourage everyone of us to chime in and keep everyone aware of your progress every now and then.

Hello from NY All!

I enrolled in july of 07 before the cut period. Have taken NC 1, Lifespan, Religion, Micro and taking NC 3 on Monday.

I am so glad I found this site. It's highly motivating and knowing that there are others out there with jobs, problems etc is a comfort. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed and I log on to read somone's success and that really keeps me going. My employer is not really motivating when it comes to continuing education. They always give people a hard time going to school. So this program is really my only option for right now cause I don't have to beg for time off to go to class etc.

I plan to take Gerontology or NC4 next. Not sure. Have to see how NC3 goes on monday!

Good Luck everybody and best wishes!

Hi all.

I enrolled in July 07. So far I have taken NC1, NC6, microbiology, and Information Literacy. I'd be going a lot faster except that I am concurrently enrolled at a local university. Right now I am finishing a Spanish class and upper-level statistics. I have NC3, 4, 5, 7 and CPNE to take. When I am done with those, assuming I pass stats in March, I will have only the nursing classes and (I believe) the upper-level writing class to take for the EC BSN, which is fine with me--I love technical writing, it's a definite strength of mine, and it's kind of my job right now anyway.

My goal is to be a nurse practitioner one day with the eventual goal of working in weight loss help into the job while staying in rural health care. I had an epiphany last year while searching on what I should do with my life, and that was exactly it.

I am currently an LPN on a volunteer basis. I get paid to be a medical transcriptionist at home. :)

I should post more as well.

oh I see- thanks!

nursemomof3boys - Wow! You certainly have accomplished a whole lot in a matter of a few months! I am truly inspired by your story! and jealous because I still have all my NC's to do and 3 cleps. I've been enrolled since Oct. as well and have no kids and only work 35 hrs a week.

Good job on everything you've done!:yeah:

Thanks erinp88. I am glad that inspired you. I posted my story to let people know that it can be doable when you put your mind to it. Good luck and please ask questions along the way if you have any.

I enrolled in excelsior in September before the xtra cpne requirements. I have yet to take a test. I am so scared of what to expect. Are the questions on NC1 Pt oriented / clinical oriented or is it rote stuff from the books or more like the nclex questions for LPN?

See... freaking....:uhoh3:

I really want to pass badly so am too scared to take the test. I have all the books and am reading alot. Just need to get an idea of the tests. I am sure once I am through the first test with that "A" i'll get (yes going for positive affirmation here) I'll be fine, its just that first hurdle that's the hardest.:scrm:

I would recommend a couple of things: first, pay for/schedule your first exam. You can schedule it for some weeks out. Next, pay for the EC practice exams ($60) and take the first EC practice exam. That will give you an idea of where you are. Also, and this is key: be sure that you have downloaded the EC exam content guide and use the outline in there to guide your study. That guide will tell you EXACTLY what to study. You can do this!!!

Purchase the practice exam for your first exam, see how well you do and I promise this will get the ball rolling.

Stop over analyzing, you can do this.

Hi! Even with a family and working full time I enrolled in EC July '07,started taking my Gen Ed Cleps/Dantes in Aug, and finished the entire program by Jan 15 '08 so it is quite doable. I am now in the CPNE holding pattern as well. I loved the program, but this wait is killing me!

I study, practice my careplans, review the CPNE videos and read the ECs Peer Network board every day, but I think (no-I KNOW) if I had an actual date, I would be a LOT more motivated. I do better under pressure!

You and me both ... this was how I was able to finish the exams so quickly (A&P and NC1-NC7 between May 14 and October 16) -- I scheduled the exams, then studied up to my deadline. I am really deadline-oriented. I hope my CPNE is sometime before August!! I really hope to have my date by next month. I applied in early November. :)

Hello fellow EC students....I also feel the only one out there at times...I signed up oh 3-4 months ago I think LOL ah times flies and I am still on my 1st course which is the info tech class from EC that everyone enrolled must take??...so I am going slow and I am hoping after I finish this one I will schedule a test and then study like mad..that is how I must do it!!! I love these boards..such a tremendous help...really....

I worked as a CNA since 96, and graduated in 04 from an LPN program. I enrolled in EC in July of 07 and so far I've taken Ethics, A & P, College writing, NC1, and NC7. I am currently working on NC 3, which I have scheduled for April. I hope to be done with the Nursing exams by August and get in my application for the CPNE so I can take it in the spring of 09. I live in PA and don't want to worry about Northeastern winters and the snowstorms. That's an added stress I don't need on top of the CPNE.

I work full time nights in long term care, that job was a real inspiration for me in deciding to go on for my RN, because I do not want to be doing this for another 10 years. I love nursing, but I have been in LTC forever, and it's time for a change.

There are many on this board that have been an inspiration to me and a source of invaluable information that has saved me time and money. I work with a girl also going through EC by way of the TCN, and her experiences have been much more frustrating. She keeps asking me where I get all this info, and I keep telling her she needs to go to this site, but she is very busy, with work and children. For me I think EC is a great oppurtunity, one I am grateful for, since I can keep my full time status, which I need right now.

I too am guilty of surfing this site without stopping to post, and sometimes that word of encouragement or tidbit of info you really needed can make all the difference. Feeling alone while attending EC is a drawback, and allnurses helps alleviate that.
