Help, CPNE date, not sure if I should accept it
Applescruffette I am seriously thinking of discussing this with my family MD and asking for something, I have no idea what he will say. I have never talked to him about anything like this. I don't think it's possible to convey with words the stress associated with this exam *shrugs*, it's worth a try. I honestly don't think meditation is gonna do it for me. Lisa

Help, CPNE date, not sure if I should accept it
Thank you for the replies of encouragement and a kick in the rear. I guess what I should titled this was: I have a CPNE date 4 months away; just started a new full time job, is that enough study time? I honestly thought most of you spent more than 4 months studying. If it's doable, then I'll go for it. I know that there is a big difference between leafing through the pages, rolling your eyes along and the serious I have to learn this by next week type of studying. So ok I'll start off with the latter, I've already used up my leisurly eyerolling time. I do not deny the anxiety attack, I'm pretty sure I may need to take Depends to Syracuse with me. Thanks again, Lisa

Help, CPNE date, not sure if I should accept it
I got a date today for the CPNE, June 5th, and I'm not sure whether to accept it or not. I just started a new full time job in a field I have absolutely no experience in (Research), it's going to be a big learning curve. I still have one gen ed to take (World Religion) and Information Literacy. I had a feeling they were going to schedule me. I got a moment to breath at work today, called and they were very nice and changed my ready date to 6/30 and I removed some of the NY sites, only testing at Syracuse or Chambersburg (I live in PA). She also said I had nothing to worry about after looking at my app, they hadn't even gotten up to scheduling June yet. I got home today and checked my email, and they scheduled me, in Syracuse for June 5th. My question is this: This new job will take at least 6-12 weeks to begin to get a handle on, I think I'm really going to like it but it is a mindboggling amount of information to absorb. I new I needed to start studying soon (even before today) but I was waiting for my head to stop spinning. At the moment when I get home I don't have a lot of energy or brain cells to work with. I know that will change as I learn the routine. I know everyone is different in how long they spend studying. I could forget about the Gen Ed until after, but I think under the circumstances 4 months doesn't seem long enough. What do you guys think? am I being a wuss? Any opinions welcome from the veterans here. thanks, Lisa

NPACers:
I finally got my application uploaded this weekend, took my husband and I (well to be honest more hubby than me) most of the weekend to to do it. Lesson learned here is if you have dial up-- go with a gif file, cause jpeg takes hours to upload. My documents are under review, hopefully there won't be any snags with that. I'm testing in NPAC region, any of the sites, hoping for a date in the spring. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. My study guide was printed out friday, now all I have to do is dig in and study. Seems like there are several of us in the homestretch here, hopefully we can keep each other going through all this. CPNE Application: Infection Control Module
Thanks so much. I've got to get this application in before thanksgiving, but I've been swamped with work. I have everything but my passport photo. I just need to get motivated to get this last phase started, so I can get this degree finished. Thanks again. Lisa

CPNE Application: Infection Control Module
This may be a really dumb question, but here goes.... the page that you sign stating you have read and understood the Infection Control Module, does it matter who is the witness to your signature? It states you don't need it notarized, but can the witness be husband, relative or someone off the street? The witness part seems kinda silly, but ok whatever, or maybe I'm missing something here. I figure it's quicker to ask someone here rather than be on hold for 30 minutes waiting for EC this week. Anyway thanks in advance for any help. Lisa

Chambersburg PA for CPNE
i called ec about the cpne about 2 months ago, i also inquired about the chambersburg site since i'm in pa. i was told that they only test there once a month, and it was a "hot site" (whatever that means) so the wait could be 8 months to a year. she also said they were working on trying to hire more staff to be able to test more frequently. don't know if this info is still valid or not. i'm going to list it when i apply, it certainly is close, maybe i'll get lucky. lisa

GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!
copied in part from nln website http://www.nln.org/newsreleases/coe_summit.htm san antonio - september 20, 2008 - in a special presentation as part of its annual four-day education summit, the national league for nursing this morning announced the six schools of nursing to receive the organization's prestigious center of excellence™ (coe) designation for 2008-2011. four schools named for the first time are: duquesne university school of nursing in pittsburgh, pa: east carolina university in greenville, nc; regis college in weston, ma; and trinitas school of nursing in elizabeth, nj. excelsior college in albany, ny and university of north carolina at greensboro have achieved their second designation having been named centers of excellence 2005-2008. "the nln is proud to recognize those schools whose faculty is doing the outstanding work that sets them apart from others," said dr. beverly malone, phd, rn, faan, ceo of the nln. "by publicly acknowledging these best academic practices, we hope to set the bar higher in nursing programs across the board so that those entering the profession will have the best tools available to meet the challenges of a diverse, ever-changing health care environment." i find this all extremely ironic, the ncsbn doesn't feel excelsior's program makes the grade, yet excelsior is one of only a handful of schools that received this honor. it seems we have an extreme difference of opinion between 2 very influential organizations within nursing. ec is accredited by the same orgs that accredit/approve every other nursing school that turns out grads able to sit for state boards. i really think this is much more rhetoric than fact and if ec was such a "second rate" college turning out substandard/unsafe nurses why would they even be considered for this award not once but twice?? lisa

Took my last Nursing Exam yesterday
congratulations on knocking out the nc exams! i'm sure you will do fine on the last one as well. you are moving faster than i am with the application, cpr class is scheduled 10/9 and i haven't started any of the other stuff. i will be happy if i get it in by end of oct or early november. i don't want a date before april though, i'm not in a hurry for this exam, i want plenty of time to feel prepared. also not much interested in driving 250+miles in a snowstorm, so i will wait for milder weather. i'm crossing my fingers pa bon doesn't start any crap about ec in between all this. lisa
