New Grad States & Relocating

Any new grad/inexperienced nurse-friendly states out there? Looking to relocate just to get a job. Cali is dried up for new grads.

Las Vegas will hire new grads. Our healthcare and doctors here are so backwards that they can't wait to get new grads and start corrupting them and telling them what to do. It's a substandard medical system, but new grads will clear $58k a year with a BSN. It's still cheap to live, too. To give you an idea....most people that have a serious medical condition choose to go to Scripps inSan Diego or UCLA for care. And they should.

Being open to relocate anywhere makes it easy, but actually doing this is not easy.

I don't agree with you ;) If you don't own anything and don't care about your stuff it's pretty easy. You pack your suitcase and you are gone. And yes, I have a husband and to cats (lol) and I still think it's easy. It's all about mindset ;)

I'm from Ohio and a lot of my friends seem to be having no problem getting jobs in southern Ohio. A lot of them were hired before they finished nursing school. I'm from the Cleveland area and it's a little harder to find a job here

Baton Rouge Louisiana! I am a new grad out of CA, here with 3 other Cali new grads at a big magnet hospital. Pay does suck and cost of living isn't that cheap despite what they say.

Check out San Francisco General, they were hiring new grads at $50.00 hour. That was in January 2013. I know it is July now but check around. I just don't believe CA is "dried up" The nurse to patient ratio is 5-1 on a med-surg unit, this is legislated and must occur. If others states don't have this legislation they can give you as many patients as "THEY" deem is safe. Blessings to you!!!

Def not NC. I have lived here my whole life and I can assure you, nurses are low paid. As a new grad, some places want to start us out at $16/hr. I don't know where this fallacy comes from that "NC has jobs." People, not just nurses, move to NC and then can't find jobs stating "well I was told it was great to live here." It is great, I love my home state, but wow are jobs scarce.

you guys i have a better idea!! have faith and pray and you will be placed where you are supposed to be. What everyone has picked as a career is a life style you guys have given up your life's to learn how to save and care for other peoples life. I truly believe that with faith each and everyone of you will be placed where you are supposed be. i don't care how hard it is to find a job you will even if it seems impossible. So don't give up and keep trying because most of your patients that's what they have to do to stay a live. I wish each and everyone of you the best and i respect and admire you guys for going into a career that is so noble and rewarding.:D

No offense taken tcrn2013, I am just basing it off of my experience. I think that everyone should apply for the job and once receives the offer in paper, to relocate and not to relocate prior to getting a job. Also I would like to add that I went to nursing school in another state and never did any clinicals in Houston or had someone help me find a job.

There are tons of new grad programs in the Southeast. I applied to jobs in VA, NC, SC, and GA, and finally got hired in GA for a critical care residency even though I was out of state and I had no contacts at the hospital. I got callbacks (one interview, one job offer) from two places in NC after accepting the job in GA, so it's not impossible to find jobs in those states although competition is high.

Which hospitals in those states are hiring new grads?
