Flu Shot Clinics?

Not exactly what I wanted my first job to be but who knows when I'll get a job so this will give me something to do in the meantime. I knew getting a job right out of school would probably take a while so even though this is a temp job, I'm OK with it and it will give me something else to add to my resume while I'm looking.

Anyone else sign up to work giving flu shots?

Yup, I also registered with an immunization company to give flu shots while awaiting that nonexistent new grad job!

When I worked as a pediatric med asst before returning to RN school, I gave tons of flu shots and thought this would be a good way to keep busy. Unfortunately, I've heard and was even told by Mollen rep that because priority is given to the RNs who previously worked for them last flu season, that the first season you do this you do not get many shifts. Oh well, better than nothin'...

Those sounded great to me- I love stickin' ;) I don't understand quite how the set up works though, as I heard that you have to pick up all the supplies yourself, and assemble your own booth, and you only get like 1 quick demo for training then you run the show alone. I wonder how accurate that is?

Yeah better than doing nothing at all. On another website, someone said the schedules were first come first serve, so she stalked the schedule all the time so she could get enough shifts and did shifts that were even far away. LOL.

Still not sure how it all works though.

Haven't gotten an email about training yet. From what the rep told me, I think we will be lucky to get only a few shifts per month.

I sent my resume to them before I found out that the Ohio BON is WAY behind, so they called me today and didn't see that I hadn't taken my NCLEX-PN yet. They told me to call them back after I take my test and the offer will still stand.

I applied at a few months ago and just went through the online training. When I went to schedule shifts, all the available shifts were at least 1-1/2 hrs to 2 hrs away! I called Mollen to see if maybe clinics hadn't been set up in my area yet and the woman told me that previous employees must have snagged up all the clinic dates.

Oh well. I am lucky that I have a full time job to fall back on. I plan to at least work a few shifts this season (even if farther away) and will have an edge up then next season.

I worked afew years ago. It was a wonderful experience. The shifts i was able to get at that time being it was my first season with them were 1 1/2- 2 hrs away. I used"map it" downloaded the directions, It was dark out when I started, never been to that part of my state before, got lost, pulled over and called Mollen and I snarled at them, I found the place on time, I worked with another nurse who had done before and knew the paperwork- a god send she was and the rest of the clinic went good. It was a beautiful drive and I had very pleasant experiences each and every clinic. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I met alot of new grads and older nurses, not to many in-between-ers.

I am signed up to do this year. I kind of cant wait and kind of nervous. I am terrified of this new notebook thing and all the new rules in place- the shot bonuses. I did get my favorite far away sites. I am not to crazy about this corporate clinic stuff. Alot of rules- arrive 1 hr prior, well many of these corporate clinics start at 6:45 AM. Give 12 shots/hr. I think I will just stick with the public clinics

I hope it will be as pleasant as an experience as the last time.

As a new hire with I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to get shifts. I hope next year will be better. Good luck to us all.

I've been a Mollen's "staff" for two yrs but haven't picked up any shifts because of the clinics locations. All of them are 2+ hrs away, not worth the gas.

We ask that the name of the flu clinics not be discussed at AN as their employee info is propriatary and they do not wish it discussed on the internet. Thanks.
