Theme song to your Nursing career?

Nurses Humor

Published

Hey all,

I'm taking the Nclex tomorrow, and studying/reviewing last minute things. I jumped on allnurses for a bit of a break.

So here's my question.. What is the theme song to your nursing career?

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

Well, I could mine a few Ramones songs: I Wanna be Sedated, Teenage Lobotomy, My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg), I Wanna be Well... and so on and so on...

My favorite is The Dead Kennedys: I'm Working at my Job (I'm so happy/More boring by the day/ But they pay me!). Not that be a psych nurse is ever boring, but sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in a rut!

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Really Depends...I'm probably repeating a few, and it depends on the day, time, and possibly full moon, lol..

I basically have a "playlist"...this is a condensed version:

1. Welcome to the jungle-Guns N' Roses

2. Crazy Train- Ozzy Osborne

3. What A wonderful World-Louis Armstrong

4. Beyond the Sea-Bobby Darrin

5.Thriller-Micheal Jackson

Even TV theme songs:

1.Gimme a Break

2. St. Elsewhere

3.Facts of Life

4.Laverne and Shirley-My favorite

5.Theme Song to "The Greatest American Hero" (Believe it or Not)

Hard Knock Life-Annie and Jay-Z Version

Lol..

I think my current one is: "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado and "We Will Rock You" when I plan and do have a kick-but day. I like being a "tough love" advocate ;)

Oh.."Just Got Paid"...great song from the late 80s/early 90s...:)

Also: "Another one bites the dust"by Queen.

Specializes in ED.

Commodores "Nightshift"

and

Chic "Good Times"

Singing these always makes me giggle inside - esp. "Good Times" when the sh*t is really hitting the fan!

Whatever gets you through the night! (wait, isn't that a song too??)

Specializes in ortho, hospice volunteer, psych,.

They're coming to take me away ho ho ha ha hee hee... To the funny farm... (I was a psych nurse!)

Specializes in Emergency.

1- Wise Up- Aimee Mann

For the acute on chronic pancreatitis in bed 6:"it's not going to stop 'til you wise up"

2- Rehab - Amy Winehouse

For many, many patients: "and I say 'no, no, no'"

3- I Fought the Law - The Clash

For the police-dog bite in Fasttrack and the man with taser electrodes in his face (ouch): "And the Law won"

4- You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones

For the seeker being escorted off property

5- As Is - Ani Difranco

For my new co-worker who is still killing herself trying to be nice:"so give up and admit you're an a------, you would be in some good company"

6-Suspicious Minds - Elvis

For the paranoid BPD in the psych cell and his co-dependent girlfriend

7- I Hate Everyone - Get Set Go

For me after that shift ;):"I hate most everybody, but most of all I hate you"

8- Breakable - Ingrid Michaelson

This is my real theme song, as it reminds me of the reasons that I wake up and do it everyday, and why at the end of the day I love my job:

"And we are so fragile,

And our cracking bones make noise,

And we are just breakable, breakable,

Breakable girls and boys"

Since I am a night nurse, my first thought was AC/DC "You shook me all night long." Also, Peter Gabriel " Don't Give Up," and Kate Bush, "This woman's work."

I have many different themes, but the most repetitive is the theme song to the old children's show "Fraggle Rock". I had a co-worker several years ago who always pronounced the antibiotic "flagyl" as "flaGull" (hard g sound). To this day, every time I give that medication, the song pops into my head. Yes, I know I'm kind of warped.

Wish it was "Pour some sugar on me" But alas, "Smells like Teen Spirit" seems more fitting LOLOLOLOL

"if u're going through hell!"

Specializes in Neuro ICU and Med Surg.

Welcome to the Jungle fits well LOL as well as If you're going through Hell and Crazy Train.

Specializes in Critical care.

I personally like "Hotel California". You can clock out anytime but can't leave. Oh, also "Push it" by Salt-n-peppa for codes.
