Help! Any nurses a member of a professional organizaion?

I am enrolled in classes for my BSN and my current assignment is to interview a nurse who is involved with a professional nursing organization. I live/work in a small town and cannot find anyone I know who is a member of any. I have a few questions to ask, if someone could be so kind and answer them. Thank you in advance!! This is for help with a homework assignment, but I am interested in joining an organization when I am done with school. Thanks for any input!

What is the name of the professional nursing organization?

[h=3]What is the focus of the organization? What are the goals?

What is the rationale for joining the organization? In other words, why would a nurse want to be a member of this particular organization? [/h][h=3]When and where does the organization meet? For how long? How frequently? [/h]

Did you try contacting an organization of interest? That way you would know for certain the respondent was a member of the organization and their credentials.

Suggestion - nurses who work in infection control often belong to APIC (organization for IC and Epidemiology professionals) and instructors teaching in nursing schools may belong to Sigma Theta Tau.

It's not like nurses wear badges that announce their memberships but that might give you some direction where to zone in.

Doing your own research you can pretty much answer your first question without problem.

Does your school have student nurses association? What about your professors? Surely you can interview one of them, and I'd be surprised if they weren't members of organizations associated with their specialties.

Thanks for the insight. The classes are all online but I am sure I can find something through the school, if not my professor would likely know of someone I can contact. I did not join the site to seek an interview...Have been looking on here for a few years, but as a new nurse I've never had anything to say. I look forward to posting more when I gain experience and confidence. :-)

Currently, I am actively involved (committees, task forces, elected offices, etc) with ANA (tri-level, local, state & national) and ANPD (for nurse educators). I belong to some others, including non-nursing organizations but just for networking. ANA is OUR political voice, so this is an essential membership. ANPD establishes and maintains the professional standards for my career field.

BTW, you can "look" at AN without joining.... no need to disparage OP's original post.

I don't think it's much of a stretch that a person might decide to sign up for AN when they decide they want to post something.

I belong to my specialty and my states's professional organizations. If this is an RN-BSN then one of your classmates surely is a member of something.
