Help after passing NCLEX-RN (Illinois)

World Registration

Published

Hi, everyone!

Could you guys help me out? I just recently passed my NCLEX-RN for the Illinois BON. Considering that retrogression is looming, I may not be able to leave for the US soon. Although, I am just waiting for an interview schedule. My case was completed just last Sept 29,2006.

How long is my NCLEX-RN valid? I know I am required to have a SSN before a license can be issued..and I need to be physically in the US to get one. Will I indeed not be issued a license without a SSN? And what do I do if the validity of my passing scores expires?

Ok..hope you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance!

i don't know either. but i will submit the application and see what happens. they probably issue a license with only a temporary SSN.

SSN is always permanent until you die... there is no such thing as temporary SSN

Please keep us updated. Each State have their own req'ts and policies about this issue. Some State BON have you sign a waiver (such as AZ BON) to waive the SSN req't and after you sign that Affidavit they will waive it and give you a license. I also heard that some will accept a certain type of SSN (not SSN for employment) just for the purpose of completing certain req'ts. This must be the one they will give you.

Please keep us informed. :wink2:

I am confused with this. Isn't it only the social Security office in US assigns a SSN? How could that be?

I think the SSN given by the BON is simply a code for applicants without SSN. I remember reading an instruction in the application form to use 999-99-9999 if the applicant does not have a valid SSN. After passing the NCLEX, they just change the last 3 or 4 digits, probably as temporary number for the successful applicant.

don't worry guys. will keep you updated. :)

after taking the exam, you will recieve a result (1 page) in mail from continental testing service (CTS) telling you whether you passed or failed the exam.

the upper portion of the page is the result and the lower portion is the application for license which you are going to send back to them with a $50 bankdraft as instructed. you should pass that form within a year as directed in the form or else it will expire and have to apply again.

after a few weeks of passing that form, you will then recieve a certificate and a pocket card (hard copy license). also, you will see your name posted on the idfpr website (professional regulation license look-up link) with your license number.

yes, they will give you the hard copy license. but then, they need your SSN once you renew your license...

if it expires and we're still here, it's ok... just let it lapse and apply for renewal once we get there...

*** just a proof of passing the nclex (result) is needed by your prospective employer to sponsor you. not the actual hard copy license.. so dont be bothered if you dont have ssn and cant have your hard license.

NCLEX in most cases do not expire as long as you maintain requirements, complete any CEU's and keep up to date. Issues may arise if your licese or application has expired. I would say only state really where it would be a problem is Ca as they destroy file if a SSN isn't submitted within 3 years and you haven't asked for an extension

I am also planning to take NCLEX-RN in IL... im wondering, i have expired visa... but i already graduated in one of the City colleges of chicago juz 2009 after taking HESI......

Heres my question... i know it must be already discussed but i want to make sure and not mess anything up... any answer / reply would be fully appreciated... I will be getting married next year 2010(legit) and finally fix my papers hopefully.

I called continental testing for taking exam without SS# this oct. 2009... even though my visa expired already,

they said they will give a temporary no. (not a temporary SS# like the person who posted this) just to sit for the exam and its up to me to update to the state or whatever.. it would not be in their hands anymore...

Im wondering if i should take the exam and be given a temp. no. but what im confused at is that, so they will provide a temp#, How am i going to update that SS# once i do get???? where do i call or update that.... i read thru this topic and someone mentioned about everything will be fine until renewal of license?... Will i get introuble if i take the NClex right now and wait til next year after i get married to get my SS#?.. and WILL i receive a "hardcopy" of the license and just renew it after i get my SS#?...

Also...... Is there also a timelimit to provide a valid SS# to state/licensure?

Thank you so much for reading through this,.... its juz so frustrating when "ppl say this... ppl say that..." and i really want to take that NCLEX already... =(... help?:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Sorry, but that is not a SSN#, they cannot assign you one, they are done only be the Social Security Administration and that needs to be applied for once you get to the US and are legal to work.

They just gave you a number to aid in completing your file, but it is no way a SSN#.

Nut remember, if you are not in the US by the time that the license is expired, you will definitely not be able to renew without having an actual SSN#. And this goes for all states that issue licenses without the SN#, you cannot renew it without one.

Hello everyone,

Truly, only Social Security Administration Office can issue a SSN#. What the Illinois BON gave you was only a temporary SSN# that starts with the number 9 . This is always the case if the test takers is outside the US and non-immigrant visa holders. As long as you are not yet in the US you can use the temporary SSN# that the Illinois BON gave you to apply for the license provided that you passed all the requirements such as the 1.) NCLEX, 2.)TOEFL, 3.) $50 processing fee and 4.) all your credentials that are fully authenticated. Remember, the the exam score of your NCLEX is valid only for 1 year from the date of your notification (Section 60-10 © IDFPR ).

So I won't be able to renew the license unless I get a SSN? Is there any way around this rule?
