Anyone else applying to the accelerated BSN?? Deadline is November 1st ... YIKES! ... ... need moral support :D !!

the wait is over .... *wine

got letter today, i am on the alternate list ... :yeah: ... ok, more waiting i see ... but at least a decision was made, now i can concentrate on rocking my microbiology class this spring towards a nice fat a.

as the op of this thread, happy to finally share the news and i'm feeling good now. i leave it in the hands of god to allow for me what's meant to be. no more stressing about getting in, i've done all i could. it could go either way and if it's not meant to be this year, there is always the next ... but i remain positive ... and i will never give up ... and i might just be your classmate in the class of 2011, there is still hope ...

in the meantime, party on .... :rckn:

So I did a little research and found that Stony Brook has a reputation as a "suitcase school"--nearly 50% of students leave on the weekends. Thats a little depressing, isn't it? At least I can find some solace in knowing my weekends will be devoted to studying... but so much for the option of a social life

Yes, we prefer to think of ourselves as a "commuter school"..lol(eventhough the term usually refers to those who dont dorm). But yea, i remember dragging myself out of bed at 8am saturday morning and dragging my little carryon w/ wheels around campus to go home. if i didnt go home my friends did so i was bored sometimes. i think its more than 50%, it felt like 65% at least. try driving around campus from thursday evening to saturday morning, people are heading for the bus or train or packing their cars w/ their bags..good old days. ( i am a little dramatic so its not as bas as it sounds)DOnt worry many of the students will still be on campus. usually people dont travel home every weekend. its like once or twice a month. most live in LI or the city so that's why they leave... You will probably be studying so much you wont notice who is there and who isnt. a lot of good food places are closed b/c few are on campus but u can access dunkin donuts, cali pizza and kitchen, starbucks(nice lounge) and wendy's most of the week.

I received my letter of acceptance last Tuesday. I'm a Stony Brook alumnus, and I'm also male, which undoubtedly factored into their decision.

I worried myself sick during the summer thinking about the application process. The endless waiting after November 1st still has my stomach in a twist. I'm now finally understanding the magnitude of everything. I got into my top choice and I get to save MONEY!

So, here is the information people want to know:

Solar changed within the first week of January. As the case with others, a "new students" tab appeared even in the case of a past SBU graduate.

GPA : 3.13 B.S. Health Science

A&P I : C+ (Nassau CC)

A&P II: IP

MICRO : B+ (IP at the time of application)

BIO 110: B+ (Nassau CC)

At the time of application I was missing Micro and the second half of A&P.

I know my rec letters were immaculate and my essays were excellent. I'm just a humble person trying to comprehend how I got accepted. I realize that several people commenting on this thread are more deserving than I am.

I would absolutely HATE being on the decision making committee...

I wish you all the best and hope to get to know each and every one of you at Stony Brook.

Congrats, I didnt get into the 1 yr but i am keeping hope alive for the two yr. with my financial situation i am not sure i could do the 1yr anyway. but i hope i get into the 2 yr. i had similar grades(switch micro and ANP) but i didnt see all my recommendations since i waived my rights so who knows( i saw one). i did health science too:) i hope i get in, if not i will try for suffolk community. i cant afford private... I will make the best of my job and use the tuition reimbursement and take more science classes. when there is a will there is a way.

Hmm, saturated fat and caffeine for the budding nursing student. Will one even make it to graduation with that diet? :D

Lol, i wont lie. I gained weight there but most of it(except two lbs) came off after graduation w/ plenty of walking and some diet changes. There is always salads and healthy other alternatives. but as usual healthier is a little more costly. Hey, for you one yr students it wont be that bad.

I've been keeping up with this thread for a couple weeks now and have still yet to hear back from Stony Brook. I have feeling I might have also been on the waitlist. Geez Louise I just wana hear what theyre decision is. Congrats to those who did make it in!

I know the feeling!! I was more relieved to get something in the mail more than finding out I was waitlisted :D ... Best of luck!

Got my rejection letter today!!! :) (sarcasm). I can't believe they made me wait this long for a rejection.

I have a 3.59 GPA for my degree in Applied Math/Economics and a 4.0 so far in the prerequisites I have finished with two still in progress. I had a great essay and I thought my references were strong. Oh well, I'm banking on the two year program. Good luck to everybody on the waiting list. I hope you get in.

Sorry to hear that, officeworker. Good luck with the two-year.

Did anyone submit the scholarship letter? I mailed mine yesterday, hopefully it got there in time...

To those who were accepted. Does anyone knows what happens now? I mailed back my letter of intent and logged on to Solar and paid the $150 tuition deposit. So is there anything else we have to do, or do we just wait until Stonybrook contacts us?

Hurry up and wait!! :)

The only other thing to do is go to the site they put in you acceptance letter and start doing the addmissions check list... do all your medical, get any shots you need and do CPR for heathcare providers.
