I got a letter in the mail today about having my professional title on my drivers license ... Does anyone else have this?

I've never been offered this option in my state, and I wouldn't want it -- unless I'm at work, on duty, it's no one else's business that I'm an RN.

I just got my license renewed about 3 weeks ago. No one at the DMV mentioned this, and I haven't received a letter.

I would get it but I don't live in NY.

It is not an option in my state. Trust me, you want as little as possible on your driver's license.

Hello, this is a ID that has your drivers lic. number on it along with the photo DMV has. It's not a actual lic. but an ID in case you are needed to help out in a crisis it gets you to the area faster if you will. No one sees it until a crisis you choose to respond to.

Does the DMV actually verify the license, or do they just put down whatever you tell them?? (You know, like the vanity license plates ... :chuckle)

Hi!! Just Wanted To Say I Live In Ny And Have A New York State Nurse Identification Card. This Has My Picture On It And License#. The Card Looks Just Like A Drivers License. It Does Not Have Drivers License # On It. For Me It Has Become Useful When I Got Pulled Over One Time. I Think Cops Treat Nurses Better Then The Average Joe. Just To Let You Know.....

Your drivers lic. number is printed on the back of this ID card. I like the other poster idea of showing to police when pulled over  the ID's do look similiar and can easily be confused :nuke:

I just renewed my NY RN license and the ID card option was there for a fee. It said they use your drivers license picture (taken when I was 4 years younger, so that's OK). I opted to get one and haven't received it yet. As mentioned earlier, cops do respect nurses, even when we drive a little too fast.

My foot isn't as leaden any more as it was in my younger years, but I have avoided a few speeding tickets because I happened to be wearing my hospital ID on the way to or from work. Once I got pulled over in the middle of the night on my way to a Hospice call (I was working as their on-call nurse at the time) & was immediately let go.

I think having this particular ID is helpful. You don't use it unless you need it and it can help identify you as a professional in times of disaster when you might need to pitch in to help first responders.

Don't know if the DMV issues it or Dept of Ed. It is definitely initiated through the professional licensing process, though & not through DMV.

I AM SO TIRED THAT I NEVER EVEN REALIZED THAT MY DRIVER LICENSE NUMBER WAS ON THE BACK OF THE ID CARD. I DO NEED TO SLOW DOWN ON MY DOUBLE SHIFTS......
