what are your thoughts on solving this?

multiplying wt but in review they didn't do anything with wt after calculation

Hint: in this question you don't need the weight, it is just extra info to trip you up...

r u sure. thanks for replying

Unless you left something out of the question when you posted (unless the medication order is written X mg/kg or something similar), the weight of the child has nothing to do with the necessary calculation and is, as Sun 0408 noted, simply a distraction.

Without worrying about the kid's weight, what are your thoughts about how to calculate the answer??

what are your thoughts on solving this?

spoken like a true nurse..helping others solve their own problems :)

yes, forget the weight. use dimen. analysis if that's how you were taught. start with what the question is asking for, which is mL. So I would put the order first: 13mg/ 1 multiplied by what you have on hand: 2 ml/20 mg. Then I would figure they just want the mL, not mL per min, or mL per hour, so I would cancel out my mg's and you're left with ml's. "q36 hrs" is there to throw you off, too, only use the hr's if it asks the drip rate, or etc.

13mg 2mL 26

------- * -------- = --------- = 1.3 mL

1 20 mg 20

Hope this helped :)

I go along with Deeder. Last I look it over and try to work backwards to see if my answer makes sense.
