i would rather have a nurse who confers with another nurse whether her med calculation was correct than the nurse who is afraid to ask and just give me the wrong dose.

where in the post below do you glean the information that she is double checking whether or not her calculation is correct? from what verbiage in the post below are you assuming any information at all about exactly what is confusing to this person or what she has done already to attempt to solve the problem? silverdragon and elkpark were attempting to get her to do just that when you jumped in and frankly, i find it rude that you jumped in and stepped on that process. is it that you think there is no underlying strategy in their step by step? your way is better and faster anyway?

quote=agldragon;4555897 . . but if i show the answer and formula and give you a similar problem, you will probably be able to solve the problem. so you can learn by me giving you the answer and the formula.

i would never give someone the answer and the formula without giving them the formula first and waiting to see if they came up with the correct answer. whether it's surface integrals of vector fields or what the sum total of 2+2 is.

nursing is different where you have to think critically most of the time and many unpredictable things happen. in math, as long as you know the various formulas you need to know, you are all set. so let's be easy on the op. do you actually believe that the op did not even try to solve this problem and just posted it like that for us to answer?

i'm not being hard on the op at all. i guess you felt you needed to tell me what the difference between nursing and math is? why? do you have a tendency to discount the value of long experience in teaching others how to do things you've only been doing a short while? i have no idea what the op did before she point blank asked for the answer. it's a good idea in nursing to get as much background info as possible before attempting an intervention and you didn't do that.

OH MY GOD i just simply asked this site to help a simple confusion that i came through while doing calculation. let me tell that angle helped me n i moved forward instead sitting n waiting people responding or not.

I hardly ask question on this site. No time. Now i came to know that people are there who wants to debate, instead of helping they wants to discourage . thanks everyone.

Gold- please don't take my post to mean that I want to discourage you or that I want to argue with people at all. In fact, I like to help people. Like I said to Angel - my issue was that there were a couple of people who've been on allnurses for a long time, and they had a different way of helping you out that you might not have seen right away as "helping" but honestly they were! I'm glad you have your confusion cleared up, and please do not stay away from this site because you think we are discouraging. Most of us are not. Best wishes in school!! :)

you know what gold? let's just move on. any time you have a problem with math, just pm me and i will help you. some people who never took so many math classes like i did do not know the difference. math is different compare to nursing. you can learn in math by knowing just the formulas and answers. of course nursing is different! i'm sure you know that. :D

if you want, you can ask the moderator to close this thread since you already solved your problem and have moved on.

good luck with nclex! i'm taking mine very soon!! we will be rns very soon. yay!!! :yeah:

i am with you 100% that you are right in this situation and i thought nurses should have compassion and empathy, but i almost got scared away from this web site when i first signed on because i did not know about the steps in posting, and i asked questions, but instead of getting help and i got intimidated by certain responds...anyway, i'm glad that i read your posting today and thanks god for people(nurse) like you. and i still can not pm yet, cuz i'm still new to this web site and i'm still learning...thank you!

sincerely,:yeah::up:

I see people are continuing to miss the point entirely.

Sure, there are a few mean, horrible snapping vultures here who roam about allnurses looking for victims - who wouldn't react with venom about that?

This is not the case here and I'd encourage all those people who think this thread is an example of that to go back and read the posts one by one.

Asking someone to fill out her issue with more information is not equal to being mean. So have at it teaching your fellow students about the test none of you have taken yet and comparing nursing to something else when you aren't a nurse yet. Who better to explain the differences than someone who has no experience? You are reversing the "eating your young" concept by treating the experienced who genuinely wanted to help like total crap. I already know that this post will fly out into the vast abyss but I feel better anyway.

Going to close this thread because we appear to just be going round in circles here.

There is no one in this thread that has tried to belittle anyone, what gets some members upset, and we do see this a lot, is people asking help to solve something or do some homework and not indicate anything at all that they have attempted to do anything themselves. Here on the web site there are many many members that love to help people out but they do not want to do it all for them as that is not helping the person asking for help. Asking to see what you have done helps to put things in a better perspective, it may be you are heading in the wrong direction or heading in the right direction but missed some stuff so knowing what you have tried to do helps in answering the question
