I failed my NCLEX, any suggestions!?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

my names laura, and i just graduated from gwynedd mercy college in may. i worked as a nurse extern for a little over a year, and since june i was working as a Graduate Nurse. My nurse manager was even taking me off orientation early to cover some openings in the schedule. She said that i was doing amazing and she felt comfortable with it. Im told im very good clincally by my teachers, my manager and the nurses on my floor. and im not a bad student, mainly B's. So i did two review courses, Kaplan and ERI. and i did a few books. i went to take my boards, on friday the 13th how dumb was i!!, and it shuts off at 94. I thought i did pretty good, but turns out i failed :o

im the worlds worst test taker, i get very nervous and i freak out. i felt pretty calm but everyone around me told me that i was a wreck, i carried my "NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy" book around with me for the whole week before the test and couldnt put it down.

but i still failed :o so i cant retest for 90 days. id appreciate any help, what did you nurses do to pass boards and to stay calm before hand! id appreaciate any help i can get.

i know so many people fail but i still feel like a huge failure, but i keep being told that anyone could fail even the best nurses ever. my boyfiend's mom is the nurse manager of the whole hospital where i work, and she even failed. but that doesnt help me feel that much better right now.

i know ill eventually pass and this wont matter anymore but right now its probaly the hardest thing ive had to deal with...any suggestions would be appreciated!! thanks! ;)

My Dear, what i have for you is that when you try and fail, you dont have to keep lying where you've fallen, you've got to rise, dust yourself and try again. No amount of denial or self pity will help you.you must forget that you failed so that it will help you to read and make it the next time.Goodluck.

I went to the test center with a plan. First of all, I studied NCLEX review books from Saunders and Kaplan and, by the time I was done, I had answered over 1,000 questions. Before testing, I decided that I would spend no longer than 1 minute on each question. If you don't know the answer to a question, it's no big deal because the computer will simply spit out another question with an easier level of difficulty. In other words, do not spend too much time on one question!

I was able to answer questions through the rational process of elimination. In addition, I eliminated the pre-test anxiety by treating myself to a big restaurant breakfast prior to going to the test center. Good luck, and I have faith that you will pass NCLEX soon! ;)

If you believe you're a passer, you will be a passer!

hey laura,

don't feel too bad! you're not alone! i found out that i failed the nclex yesterday, and still bummed out about it. after you have a few hours to yourself to recooperate, you'll find that the only thing you can do now is study harder and defeat it the next time around! it is definitely no fun, and i am super upset about it. people fail many times before they get rn behind their name, and i guess that is something we both have to accept. at least we get more than one chance. i'm a bad test taker too, so i know how you feel. just keep your head up, and now that you know how it works, they next time you take it, it won't be as bad as the first time! take care! hang in there!

hey guys

ive been reviewing some responses and seeing most of u guys are lvn/lpn's already. for me i failed the nclex once already for the lvn im just trying to get to that part. it would be nice to see some more input from some mas or cnas trying to get there lvn license. so if ur out there give a holler.

thanks for the help guys :)

im starting to think more postive, any suggest any review books/courses online that are good for me?

i greatly appreciate the help

You said you studied Kaplan. Was it the online question bank or the book? And how close did you feel Kaplan was to NCLEX?

I also failed and know how you feel.

I don't think they were in the same ballpark at all. I kept waiting for a question to apply "the tree" to.......never did get there. I failed last week too. I think it's just luck of the draw though. All of my friends said Kaplan helped them alot.

I'll holler. I am awake at 2:30am because I took my NCLEX PN exam today and cannot sleep at all. It stopped somewhere between 85 & 90. I was a CNA for 3 years and quit while raising 3 kids at home. Kids are 10, 6, and 3 so it was a hard road through school to make it to the test date to feel this way about it really SUCKS. I know that three faces will be up and smiling at the crack of dawn but this nursing thing has kept me up another night. Please God if you read this, let me pass, please don't make me study anymore. I'm soooo burnt out. Ha! Ha! Good luck to you. The hardest part for me has been missing time with my family to sacrifice for school and the waiting to see if after all this trouble did I even pass. I really don't know. The questions that I remember were ones I was unsure of and I missed those, more have been coming to me when I lay down to sleep so I decided I needed some therapy instead of sleep. Thanks for listening.:uhoh3:
