I failed my NCLEX, any suggestions!?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

my names laura, and i just graduated from gwynedd mercy college in may. i worked as a nurse extern for a little over a year, and since june i was working as a Graduate Nurse. My nurse manager was even taking me off orientation early to cover some openings in the schedule. She said that i was doing amazing and she felt comfortable with it. Im told im very good clincally by my teachers, my manager and the nurses on my floor. and im not a bad student, mainly B's. So i did two review courses, Kaplan and ERI. and i did a few books. i went to take my boards, on friday the 13th how dumb was i!!, and it shuts off at 94. I thought i did pretty good, but turns out i failed :o

im the worlds worst test taker, i get very nervous and i freak out. i felt pretty calm but everyone around me told me that i was a wreck, i carried my "NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy" book around with me for the whole week before the test and couldnt put it down.

but i still failed :o so i cant retest for 90 days. id appreciate any help, what did you nurses do to pass boards and to stay calm before hand! id appreaciate any help i can get.

i know so many people fail but i still feel like a huge failure, but i keep being told that anyone could fail even the best nurses ever. my boyfiend's mom is the nurse manager of the whole hospital where i work, and she even failed. but that doesnt help me feel that much better right now.

i know ill eventually pass and this wont matter anymore but right now its probaly the hardest thing ive had to deal with...any suggestions would be appreciated!! thanks! ;)

Hi Laura, keep your chin up and take a deep breath. You can do it!. Although knowing that others have failed once, twice, multiple times is no consolation, but you are not alone. I found out last week that I failed NCLEX again!!! (5th) time. What do you make of that. I was an honor student, president of our nursing school association, 3.95GPA. Although after tree times, I ended up taking the NCLEX-PN. passed one time. I graduated as a BSN, and I am not about to give up.:nono: I have just dusted myself up, I will stick to Suzzane's plan this time and see what God's plan is for me. I bet we will all pass!!!!!keep in touch.

I am awake at 2:30am because I took my NCLEX PN exam today and cannot sleep at all. It stopped somewhere between 85 & 90. I was a CNA for 3 years and quit while raising 3 kids at home. Kids are 10, 6, and 3 so it was a hard road through school to make it to the test date to feel this way about it really SUCKS. I know that three faces will be up and smiling at the crack of dawn but this nursing thing has kept me up another night. Please God if you read this, let me pass, please don't make me study anymore. I'm soooo burnt out. Ha! Ha! Good luck to you. The hardest part for me has been missing time with my family to sacrifice for school and the waiting to see if after all this trouble did I even pass. I really don't know. The questions that I remember were ones I was unsure of and I missed those, more have been coming to me when I lay down to sleep so I decided I needed some therapy instead of sleep. Thanks for listening.:uhoh3:

hey lilah

good luck to u. i took the nclexpn the second time on july 6 my 11 yr anniversary 14 all together. i have two children my self i stared late my first was at 30 the other at 35 two girls 2 and 6. so i know the feeling of doing all this for my family my husband was a huge support along with family i dont if could have done it w/o them. but to let u know i also work at a hospital as a ma/cpt-1 aka phlebotomist you have to be licensed in that to in ca. anyhoo i also worked at several parts of the hospital as a clerk do u know how hard it was going back there and having to work, but guess what i did and i got over it, it seems like the end of the world but its not u just get right back up and try again. i dont care if it takes me 50 times in ca u can take it as many times as u need to. i timed out the first time at 94? i was sooo nervous and tweeked out all around they said if i kept going i would of passed so i kind of see it as not failing but timing out. so i went to this seminar in san diego and it helped alot they teach u how to answer the ?s so it was kinda neet some spirital things and goals they wanted u to have so my goal was to pass and 85 the min for lvn so i took second time around it stopped at 85 plus they gave u a card to put your test date on and it says i will pass my state boards on such and such date so funny b/c my first time i wrote it ten times on my own on a piece of paper and a nurse friend of mine saw it i said i even wrote it ten times and she said yeah but u didnt date it. weird. i hope u pass seems we want the same things for ourselves and our family take care let me know how it goes and ill do the same . :trout:

Hi dont feel alone, I found out yesterday I failed too. :(

But..this is how I am looking at it. I am taking a different approach in studying, last time I did soo many questions. I am going to use my ERI book, review content, my friend is giving me her index study cards.

I know it is hard...I feel what you are going through, it stinks doesnt it?

But, its not how you fall..its how you get up is what counts!!

We will pass our boards.

WE ARE STILL NURSES!!! WE GRADUATED AND THAT IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT IN ITSELF!!

Dont ever lose sight of that!

Im here for you!!

Take Care...

hi I am trying to study for NCLEX. I failed the first time. Would you tell me what edition of the sauders or kaplan book did you used? Any other advice about resources for studying would be great.

Thanks

i have the 3rd edition of saunders and tenth edition of kaplan..

thanks everyone for the help. i appreciate it, when i get down everyday i look on here and i realze that these people these nurses i dont even know are supportive of me, the people that arnt supportive of me that acutally know me arnt worth my time.

i found it helpful to go to my work and acutally talk to the nurses ive been working with for a year now and they all were so nice and supportive, you would never guess who failed untill they tell you.

once you have that RN behind ur name no one asks how many times you failed!

thank again

any more ideas on how to prep, or certain books or programs let me know! i still am yet to decide for sure what is best for me.

that website wouldnt load for me, i tried a few times... is it the right link or am i just stupid.

i just got that packet from the board saying i failed in the mail today, turns out everyone at my work told me i had to wait 90 days to retest when its only 45, but that brings me to exactly my frist day back at school! so ill have to put it off a little bit after that!

Honestly, I thought the Kaplan questions were much easier than the actual NCLEX examination. However, I did find them to be very useful. I made sure to review every rationale whether I got the question right or wrong. A lot of the ones I got correct were lucky guesses.

I did 99% of the questions on Qbank and all of the question trainers. After a while, I started catering my tests on Qbank to only include the content that was most difficult for me.

I would then use the Kaplan book to refresh my memory on my weak areas. Because we didn't have a mandatory pharm class, I spent a lot of time going over that section in the back of the Kaplan book.

Initially, I tried studying using Kaplan, Saunders, and my notes. It became too much. I decided to narrow my focus and commit at least one hour each day to either reading or answering questions, using Kaplan. I often spent about three hours per day but never less than the allotted hour.

I didn't use the "tree" thing that they teach in Kaplan. It wouldn't have been useful with most of my NCLEX questions. Fortunately, access to their questions and that wonderful book were invaluable.

I graduated with two wonderful ladies. They both have severe test anxiety. One passed NCLEX with 265 the other with 91. You can do this. You didn't complete your nursing program without the knowledge to pass NCLEX.

You are NOT stupid. The link loaded for me previously and when I tried it today it did not load.

You CAN pass that exam with the right training!

I was told by a professor to do 3000 questions, i think i did close to that. Kaplan prepaired me the best. I did the in class along with the online. Also Learning ext.
