Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

my names laura, and i just graduated from gwynedd mercy college in may. i worked as a nurse extern for a little over a year, and since june i was working as a Graduate Nurse. My nurse manager was even taking me off orientation early to cover some openings in the schedule. She said that i was doing amazing and she felt comfortable with it. Im told im very good clincally by my teachers, my manager and the nurses on my floor. and im not a bad student, mainly B's. So i did two review courses, Kaplan and ERI. and i did a few books. i went to take my boards, on friday the 13th how dumb was i!!, and it shuts off at 94. I thought i did pretty good, but turns out i failed :o

im the worlds worst test taker, i get very nervous and i freak out. i felt pretty calm but everyone around me told me that i was a wreck, i carried my "NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy" book around with me for the whole week before the test and couldnt put it down.

but i still failed :o so i cant retest for 90 days. id appreciate any help, what did you nurses do to pass boards and to stay calm before hand! id appreaciate any help i can get.

i know so many people fail but i still feel like a huge failure, but i keep being told that anyone could fail even the best nurses ever. my boyfiend's mom is the nurse manager of the whole hospital where i work, and she even failed. but that doesnt help me feel that much better right now.

i know ill eventually pass and this wont matter anymore but right now its probaly the hardest thing ive had to deal with...any suggestions would be appreciated!! thanks! ;)

im doing the saunders book, and im taking the end of chapter questions before i read the chapter and im gettin 90s-100s before im even reading the chapters. this is making me much more calm because i know its just nerves.

i found out today i passed!! thanks for the help everyone!!!

it must feel good after failing to see you passed the second go round. i failed my 1st nclex in july and was unbelieveably devastated. im still trying to stay focused on suzannes plan now. pls share with us what you did different this time as far as study, books, etc.

:balloons: congratulations on your success!!!!

hi Laura! CONGRATULATIONS!!! i'm so happy for you when i read that you passed!

I also failed my exam just this july 28. i felt upset at first, but that won't stop me for giving it another try. i wasn't that prepared when i took the exam, i was in a hurry to get over it. I used NCSBN online and Saunders, but i wasn't really able to do all the practice questions. so this time i'll make sure that i'll take my time to review and prepare for it. I will do Suzannes recommendation on using the Saunders. I'm also planning to take Kaplan course. Do you think it's too much or confusing if i take Kaplan and Saunders? Any more advice you can give? Thanks a lot! it will be of big help for me!

I'm thankful that i've found this thread coz you guys inspires me to do my best the 2nd time around. hope i could pass this time. Godbless!

Laura,

Hello. My name is Lori, and I too failed the boards. In fact 13 so far have not passed boards from my school in SW Florida out of about 32 that have sat so far... I took them July 30 and I too felt so awful and DEPRESSED. I felt pretty good coming out of the test, but I must have been in my own unique world, because leading up and after my husband said I was certifiable. :uhoh3: I don't know about that...

But I am in a better place, and after much soul searching, I realize that my preparations were all over the map. Everything from Kaplan, to ERI, to NCSBN, to Saunders, and NCLEX books galore... This time around I am sticking to one, and that is Kaplan. I am repeating the class starting tomorrow (w/o repaying... part of their guarantee) and I am totally focusing on their book and online questions. I can only HOPE and PRAY it will be enough.

I also have another classmate that is taking the class and their are 3 of us that study together - small groups work best.

I plan to retake towards the end of September... Wish me luck.

You are in my prayers. We will pass... We will go on to be amazing nurses! Good luck to you, my fellow classmates and everyone else that has to retake boards.
