Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi Guys,

After taking my test I did the pvt for about 20 times within 38 hours and was getting the good pop based on this I thought I passed. The next day I did the pvt again and got the cc page I am so shocked I can't belive it. I haven't been sleeping and I am so down and depressed it was my third time how can pvt be so unrelaible? What is wrong or going on? Wasn't the 24 SATA with 85 questions a good sign? I am so lost, confused and do not know what to do. All I did was crying. I have talked to my professors and some recomended writing a complaint letter I just do not know how to prove them because I did the pvt what am I suppose to say in my complaint? Please help me with this letter in my heart I feel that I passed but how to prove they will tell me pvt is not relaible but what about 24 sata? oh god I do not know any more I am not a good complaint writter please help me desperetlly seeking your help.

Thank you

Karen

If you didn't pass...

You didn't pass.

I don't understand how any letter (even the 9/10's non-disclosed) can change those facts.

You do not meet the minimum level of competency to be a nurse.

I think you should be more humble instead of looking for an entitled freebie.

Stuff like this solidifies the stereotypes of our generation.

Sad.

Wow. :uhoh21:

First, I'm sorry that you failed your exam for the third time.

I've never heard of someone getting a good pop-up from the PVT trick and then getting the CC page a couple of days later. As far as I know, it never changes once you get the good pop-up.

However, it is interesting that for someone with a 4.0 GPA, I would think that you would know what you're doing in terms of knowing how study for any exam. I would suppose that anyone with such academic achievement would be able to pass the NCLEX on their first try. But I digress and excuse me for being suppositious. I'm not really trying to be skeptical.

Maybe there was an error with computer or something. It's not impossible. Before I took the exam, I studied like crazy for it. I over-prepared, although I never really felt prepared prior to the exam. Had I failed it, I would have thought that I just didn't study or prepare enough for it. Because it is what it is. The computer concluded that you had failed to meet the minimum competency. So for me, it's weird how you came into the conclusion that you passed the exam and that it was an error on their part.

Lastly, SATA questions have no bearing on difficulty. They're alternative format questions. I had tons of them when I took the test and some of them were in the knowledge and comprehension level.

The bottom line is a few people will find this unfair to be able to test again (if it is for free) and some would want to start doing the same thing. If they do it for you, I am pretty sure they can do it for everyone else. My school is very strict. If someone fails an exam and that person begs to take it again, the first thing they would say is no because if we do it for you, we'll have to do it for everyone else.

Getting a 4.0 in nursing school is excellent. You must have A's or minimum of high B's every single exams/ have a good foundation of content/ good test taker or good strategy. I do not blame some who are questioning this. Some people emphasized that the NCLEX is only testing for minimum competency.

I have seen plenty of posts where some people have ADD, ADHD, Average C students, some were pregnant, going through difficult times and still passed. It's the integrity that counts the most among us nurses and future nurses.

I can kind of see why people are getting upset here. The ones that are highly respected are the ones who kept taking the exams over and over until they passed and paid for them with no letters, petition, etc.

I really really like the ones who speak the truth even though it hurts. Honesty is the best policy.

Hey, please don't be so depressed .

All of this smells fishy to me. Has anyone heard of PV giving people free re-tests (especially on the 4th attempt??) and lack of ability to spell despite having a 4.0 gpa?

I think I smell a troll...

I absolutely don't think this is a troll. But I also absolutely think there's considerably more to the story going on that we don't know. Many inconsistencies, and things that just don't seem correct as stated.

How dare anyone say you are not cut out to be a nurse if you failed the NCLEX any amount of times. I don't care what the situation is, no one has the right to say that. Answering questions on a standardized test and performing quality care and giving care to patients are two different things. Other than that, I don't think we know the full situation to even be ignorant and call somebody out. If she got a ticket to retest then good for her. Maybe her test results were glitchy and that's why they gave her the retesting ticket. to me this thread was started out of frustration as we all would be if we failed the NCLEX. So let's try to be more sympathetic and less ignorant. Good luck on your next attempt!!!!

It's possible, I suppose. I just have a hard time believing that someone has a 4.0 in nursing school and can't spell appropriately. And if anyone can point to that PV will pay for a free re-test because you sent a letter of complaint, I would love to hear about it. Do you think they will give me a refund if I tell them that the room was too cold? Because, gosh darn it, IT WAS! It was freezing and I wasn't allowed a jacket.

All kidding aside, OP, I wish you well on your re-test. Others are right; the NCLEX isn't everything and you do most of your learning how to be a real nurse while you're in orientation. I highly recommend Saunder's and the La Charity book for prioritization. I also did the Kaplan program when I studied for NCLEX, but that was a last minute freak out for me in the last three weeks before I took it. If this is your fourth time, you may need to consider taking a refresher class. When did you graduate? If it's been more than a few months, it's easy to forget a lot. Best of luck.

Hi MissMed School,

Thank you for the people like you who are open minded and see the the world through good lenses. If everyone thought like others and through saw everything through the nerrow lenses we whould have lived in a misreable world. I think everyone sees the situation through their own lenses which is understanding.

I was accused of cheating, smelling something fishy, not being a good nurse because I did not pass the nclex and etc... it seems as though many are seeing the world through their fishy eyes.

I was shocked to see this type of responses but I guess I should expect this is human nature wasn't president Obama was questioned for not having his birth certificate? and other accusation or how can a black man became a president? This is the world we live in and we all see everything through based on our experinces and eyes. I am glad there are positive and not fishy smelling people are here. I have nothing to gain by lying.I feel that I can't convey and I am not going to if there is a jeoulosy that I got the ticket and you did not then to bad for you, deal with it.

My remarks may be better suited for a different thread, but the subject keeps coming up here that qualified, capable, competent nurses don't fail the NCLEX. This is simply not true. It's not even true that someone who fails multiple times can't be a great nurse. Some people are simply lousy test-takers. Some people (like me) happen to be great test-takers. There is some connection between our knowledge of nursing and our ability to provide care based on that knowledge. But, there is no absolute that a person who struggles because of test anxiety, or language difficulties, or the inability to choose between a handful of answers that are all arguably 'right' is not a capable nurse. When I was in nursing school, I was near the top of my class. A couple people who got better grades did get so by cheating (This is not a case of sour grapes. They actually tried to enlist me in their cheating ring. Worse, they weren't cheating in order to simply survive nursing school; they were's cheating to be on the Dean's list.) On the other end of the academic range was a guy who really did struggle through nursing school. In clinicals he was superior. He knew exactly what to, when to do it, do how to do it, and how to prioritize. Before every test, we studied together and I coached him through the information. His test scores always hovered around failure. He barely passed each test, barely passed each semester, barely passed each year, and barely graduated. He took the NCLEX twice; the first time he was given hundreds of questions and finally he failed. The second time he was given hundreds of questions and miraculously he passed. If I were in the hospital, regardless of my condition, I would want that guy caring for me--not the cheaters from my nursing school, nor some others who passed the NCLEX on their first attempt.

Honestly now.. This young lady was just trying to vent her frustrations as anyone would after failing. Some of you it take it to another level... Really Nurses!!! Thought we should be caring, understanding, and show empathy. No wonder the care is lacking in the hospital these days and mangers are finding ways to fix that. Let's think about what we are going to write before we post.. it really doesn't look good. Karen, let this experience make you stronger. Don't dwell on the negatives...Let this motivate you to study harder and get that RN behind your name. "You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you".

Hi Tashy Mary Kay,

Thank you and that is exactly what I was trying to do but it took to a different level. Well stated nurses should be caring, understanding and show emphaty thats also what our code of ethics teaches .

" And if anyone can point to that PV will pay for a free re-test because you sent a letter of complaint, I would love to hear about it.

I like your sense of humor but don't be surprised many of the classes I took,we were strongly encouraged to write letters to our sentators, representatives if it did not matter they wouldn't encourage us to do so.

Look at the history black people were discriminated if everyone thought the way you think the change wouldn't take place, or women's sufferage if they did not take stand and start women's movment we would have lived in a male domenant society, yes there is still unequalities that exist but we have come a long way. So do not be surprise if you were offered a jacket

If you just took that step and asked for it you might as well got it.
