Nursing Students NCLEX

Taking the state exam this march n going thru questions rationales.

Kaplan qbank on dosage calculations are ok with .1 answer

Uworld n ncsbn qbank wants me to write 0.1 answer

How did you gals n guys answered your dosage question on the test with the sample digits above?

I wanna pass the test on not getting a dosage answer wrong.

Thank you.

If an answer involves a decimal point, please write it in full, 0.1, so as to decrease confusion.

Lack of a leading zero (ie. writing .1 instead of 0.1) is on the Joint Commission's official Do Not Use list: Facts about the Official “Do Not Use” List | Joint Commission -- this is because the decimal point could be missed and it could be read as a whole number, increasing the dose by a factor of ten.

I would go with UWorld and always include it.

I can't believe any NCLEX prep materials (or nursing education materials of any kind) say that omitting the leading zero (.1 instead of 0.1) is okay. That is a major thing in healthcare to (try to) avoid med errors.

And in a similar manner, a trailing 0 (i.e., 1.0) should not be used either.

Thanks gals.

Gotten really mad i got questions on uworld qbank wrong.

Always put the 0 before the decimal point ... Prevents a med error

Follow up question.

At the testing center when im doing the test. Can i talk to myself the rationales on each question?

I do that and wave my hand n touch my body part whenever doing major tests.

Will the proctor deem suspicious of me as cheating of some sort?

Those are my mannerisms and it works for me.

Thanks gals...

It may work for you; for other people taking the test, not so much. I have a feeling the proctor will tell you to be quiet so that others in the room can concentrate.

(Not sure I want to know what body part it is you're touching when you take tests.)
