I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?

First of all welcome to the forums and thanks for taking the plunge and starting a Fall 11 post.

I am a bit nervous about applying too. Not sure why though. I have the grades and am confidant I'll do well on the TEAS (standardized tests are my thing). I guess I am just worried about how they receptive they are to my essay. Well that and when ever I go to a UMB event it is packed to the gills, there sure is alot of competition for a very limited amount of seats. Oh, UMB is also the only school I am applying to, so that makes 3 reasons for me to be nervous...

Nothing we can do to change what's been done, just focus on keeping the GPA up this semester and getting that package in before the 1st of Feb.

You might have to retake the class. They require science pre-req grade to be B or above.

Apply for Fall 2011, but retake Anatomy this spring. You have to have a B in the prereqs to be admitted (so they say). Best of luck!

I thought it was a b average in the sciences, and no grade could be less than a b while on a conditional acceptance.

I looked online and can't find the link for that, but I had attended an information session and I know it was mentioned there. Call the admissions office to double check if you want, but I am 99% positive you have to have a B in the required science classes.

It is mentioned somewhere in the Spring 2011 thread as well, but yes, one needs a "B" or better in classes such as A&PI/II, mirco, chem, etc...

At my information session, they said your science GPA should be 3.0 or better, but they did not say they required B's.

This sounds confusing. I'd suggest you clarify with the Admission office.

I got accepted to Spring 2011 as Provisional-Admit. I asked the lady who called to congratulate me on the acceptance. She confirmed that my last pre-reg, Microbiology must be B and above. My science GPA without Microbiology is 4.0.

Has anyone else applied for the fall 2011? I am finishing my online application this week and then sending in all of my transcripts, letters, etc.

Does anyone know how long the essay for the application is supposed to be? I couldn't find anything specific on the website.

I'm pretty nervous- I want to go to maryland so badly, I am really hoping I get in. I've been working so hard for all my pre-req's I just want it to all pay off. Fingers crossed!

I dropped my online app last week, but I am still working on my essay (BTW it has a two page limit, the app gives the instructions on the portion that requires you to cut and paste your essay).

And I know what you are going through. I was up in the air between UMB and JHU, but after going to both info sessions I knew UMB was the better fit, its an amazing school with great staff. It is going to be a long spring semester waiting to hear if we got in. I too worked really hard, and I dont think there is anything I could have done better. Well except for this essay, I can't seem to be able to get it to work right, but I have another month to perfect it.

Take lot of care with your essay. Use it to convince the admissions committee that you can and will succeed in the program. Show your level of commitment which should include not only your passion for the profession but what you are going to do to make sure you will graduate. What obstacles have you overcome so far? Discuss where you see yourself going in the field. Convince the committee that you really understand what nurses do - work or volunteer experience with nurses can help here. And, for heaven's sake, use Spellcheck and have someone else read it for grammar. Sloppiness or the inability to write well is the last thing you want to convey. Finally, if you are applying to multiple schools, make sure you paste the essay into the correct school's application. I think if you imagine yourself on the admissions committee reviewing applications, you can figure out what it is about you that they would want to know.
