UMB FALL 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?

Sooooo… Fall 2011 people- you've got a lot of incoming Spring 2012 people that might want to buy some of your books from you. We're still waiting on final decisions, but a lot of us are gearing up getting ready.

Anyone willing to part with their books for a decent price?

Anyone willing to give advice on how to survive semester 1 of nursing school?

It's not a survive or not kind of thing. Don't psyche yourself out. Don't get me wrong, it's difficult, but very doable (I am putting in the same effort that got me A's in pre reqs and getting high B's at UMFC, but my more studious classmates are pulling down solid A's (it's not called UMB anymore, either UM if talking about everything or UMFC if just talking about edu)).

As far as books go, you are unlikely going to get anything out of us other than patho pharm, and even that's a maybe as we use the books in other courses.

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a few answers to some questions to help me decide what I'll do next semester. I have to decide within 14 days because UMSON wants their deposit.

Can anyone give me a basic idea of what the class/lab/clinical schedule is? I'm not looking for exact time, just like Mon - Wed 8am-3pm class, Thur 7-3 lab, Friday 7-5 clinicals.

Also, can I have a list of the clinicals sites? I know there's no guarantee as to where I'll be placed, but if I have an idea of the range of how far I'll be driving, it would be a big help.

Thanks a bunch!

PS- How much did you spend on books?

on the SG campus classes are usually:

health assesment* - M 10-1

patho MT5-730pm,

research W(i think or thursday) 10-1

Fundies* - R 1-4 maybe?

*these classes have labs asso with them and can be all different times

The clinical sites change from semester to semester. they are usually around the school. I think that they are usually friday, altho this semester i think that the students said that they had Saturday as well.

First semester i spent about $500 for uniforms, equipment and books.

i hope this helps some.

Hey there

I just got accepted to UMB at shady grove for the spring 2012 semester. I am wondering if anyone is looking to sell book from their first semester. Please let me know and thanks so much

i'll be honest most of us keep our patho pharm, fundies and assessment books are they are useful for the rest of school/NCLEX exam. i used bigwords.com to look for my books pretty much every semester as the check most of the main books sites

Thanks so much for heads up on both!

Hello to everyone who reads this. I am starting at UMB SON in 2 weeks and am wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of what the clinical times are like. I have 2 young daughters and I'm trying to figure out what kind of extended child care I'm going to need. My husband is in the Army and goes TDY (that's temporary duty that's not in the area) for 4-6 weeks at a time- and of course it will be mid-semester... every semester!! So I'll basically be a single-mom for a good chunk of nursing school, and, unfortunately, we don't have any family in the area. Any clinical input would be very greatly appreciated!

I am attending the shady grove campus this spring and we were told unofficially that our clinicals would be friday morning starting at about 6:30-7am for 4 weeks at the end of feb. beginning of march. We will have several different sites to choose from but only like 8 student are at each site. This may change and I have no idea what the B-more campus is like. I would assume they would tell us at orienatation more specifics.

Hope that helps

Thanks, buca04. That definitely helps a bit. I know I'll need to make SOME sort of arrangements, but not knowing what I need to do is driving me nuts! It reminds me of when my 1st daughter as an infant and I had to go back to work (I was in the Army then) and I couldn't find any reasonable childcare. Something fell in my lap last minute, so I'm a firm believer that things always find a way of working out. I just don't like waiting to find out, I suppose!

I hear ya there , although my husband is not in the army he travels alot for business and the 5-730 class I have scares me a bit because my sons aftercare ends @ 6pm and I live about an hours away from the shady grove campus so friends and family have offered to help on the days I need it. Thank goodness for good friends and family. Also just a heads up for any shady grovers they just released lab times on SURFS.
