UMB FALL 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

I will be applying for the Fall 2011 program at UMB really really soon. I was wondering if anyone else was doing the same...? I'm really nervous about applying because Anatomy really kicked my butt last semester and I ended up getting a C (even though I ended up doing really well on my other science courses). Now, I'm losing hope. Anyone feeling the same?

Thanks a lot for the advice. I just submitted my application. I am entirely too nervous right now.

I hope to finish my essay and cv today and mail them out with my courses completed list on Monday. However, I had to hack my essay down to size (it was four pages before I knew it, there is just so much to say), and still keep it from being cliche...

Mine was 4 pages too! however, it shortened to two pages just after widening the margins. good luck!

I guess thats one way to do it, but I already shored my essay up (a bit too much as now I am at just over a page, so I am going to go back over it and see if there is anything that needs further explaination).

On second thought. Not sure I need to worry about the essay at all, it seems like there are just us 3 applying for this Fall...

Hahah yeah I am surprised there are not more people posting on this thread. I have sent everything in except my transcripts and my resume, which I plan on mailing tomorrow. I just want to do a little extra work on my resume tonight and then everything will be good to go. Then we just have to endure 2 months of waiting! AH!

@ksm84 and @student4_life, haha you're absolutely right, i wonder why people aren't posting anything on here. may i ask which campus will you guys be applying too? and what's your gpa like? who knows.. we may be future classmates!

I am applying to the baltimore campus; how about you? I reallllly hope I make it in; I have been working so hard for so long for this and it's all I want to do. I'm thinking more people will start posting on here once we hit the application deadline and the waiting game starts. Good luck to all of us!

I think you are absolutely right. I have monitored other threads like this and the traffic usually does heat up after the deadline. It hits fever pitch when acceptances start going out. It is a long process but an extremely fair one. Best of luck to you all.

Oh, I have a suggestion. Do what you can to line up your financial aid now - there does not seem to be quite as much available as there used to be. We have had several spring applicants who did not do that until after they had been accepted and could not then find enough tuition money. They had to decline their offers. Maybe this will not be an issue for you since the amount of time between acceptance and the first day of school is so much longer for fall applicants.

@Kayroool Shady Grove all the way, they had me at free parking :). Well not really, my spouse goes to school in the Rockville area and I want to stay close (otherwise we would either have to get two places or I would be putting some serious miles on my car plus parking fees). But I do think its funny they always mention the free parking which after going to open houses at JHU and UMB in Baltimore I understand. As far as GPA goes I have been fortunate enough to maintain a competitive average for the first 47 credit hours (including all the sciences) and am going to keep my nose to the grindstone during this last semester and not buy into the idea that these last 12 hours are going to be easy.

Thankyou for the Luck Grey Lady, hopefully I can be on your campus soon.

I am hitting up FASFA the day we get our W-2's and 1099's (which will also be the day I do taxes, long day). I also hope to be in the running for some merit based aid.

One other thing Grey Lady, the admissions isn't first come first served right? I am all but done with everything but one of my letters of rec is from a very busy professor and it will be getting in towards the end of the deadline (and its anyones guess as to where my transcripts are). I would hate for admissions to get to my packet after all the spots were filled up.

They will look at the application portfolios that are totally complete on the deadline first but as long as the letter gets there within the next couple of weeks, I can't see where you would have a problem. No worries!

Finally finished my Essay and Resume, and it only took 8 and 5 revisions respectively. Thank you for the peace of mind Grey Lady.

Good for you! I am sure you have done all you can do. You would be surprised how many thoughtless, sloppy essays are submitted. That kind of thing can negate a great GPA. Rest assured, our admissions committees pore over every detail of an application. That's primarily why it takes so long for decisions to be made. I wish I could give you some magic to help you through the waiting. Best of luck!
