I lol at the stud who quit because he had to empty a bedpan... - page 3

Had to share...there are (were) 4 guys in my class of 30. We have already had 10 people drop out after they found out exactly how much was involved with class and clinicals. If that wasn't bad... Read More

I don't think I necessarily quite fit the description of this guy, other than I work out like it's a religion, but I find your description of him a bit... I don't know, insulting to an extent. What's wrong with being great looking and built? What are you, scrawny and ugly and therefore better? lol

It's sad to hear that he wasted his time and resources pursuing something only to quit over something so simple. I'm not sure why you have so much contempt for the guy?

Had to lol @ the two war veteran card being played so quickly... I hope you were infantry.

    Oh, gee whiz!
The OP admitted to a little contempt and jealousy...
Now, how about giving him credit for being honest?

However, I would work on holding it together until I left the pt's room.
Now that is an art in and of itself.
I cannot tell you how many times we have been just bursting behind our poker faces, only to just collapse out in the hall.

I like the code brown comment lol! During clinicals for CnA program I actually handled those code browns pretty well I must say.

I to found your comments about this guy to be pretty judgmental.... I workout daily, am pretty self confident, and take a lot of pride in my health and appearance. I have also held my patients hand while they died, cried with their family members, and poured my soul into nursing. I feel like you already had preconceived ideas about this guy just because he was good looking... And why would you be happy that someone failed in a clinical setting??

OP's story and subsequent posts makes me think he is a total....I am sure you got some things you can improve upon as well...maybe start going to the gym yourself?

I really think that having the CNA program as a pre-req should never be taken off the nursing school roster. If you can't handle the bedpan as a CNA, you can't handle the bedpan as a nurse. The BM's and urine come with the job, no matter the title you may have at the time. Just in case you're wondering, I AM a CNA getting ready to start the nursing program.
I actually feel bad for the guy. That is alot of class time he has already spent, and alot of those credits won't apply towards a non-medical degree. Very sad. But it is a good thing that he decided to leave then, not after getting the degree and then providing sub-standard care to a patient.

Wow I hope there is nobody in my nursing classes as judgmental as the original poster of this thread. God bless.

I kind of found this sad in a way. I've worked as a CNA, and there is nothing worse (that i've experienced,) than walking in to a room where everyone has diarrhea. It took me a long time to stomach this kind of situation, and I still have a hard time dealing with crap.

That being said, I think he made the right choice by dropping out. He obviously came to a realization that this career is not for him. It kind of sucks that he took a spot in the program that a more dedicated person would have loved to take, but at least he knows now. OP I think if this happens again you should try to compose yourself better. That was kind of a dick move.

Not saying that there wasnt some humor. His reaction was probably funny. I remember some of the reactions of my classmates, and they were classic. But I would have never made fun of anyone if they decided, at that moment, that nursing wasnt for them. It's just bad form man.

    imo...

should have done some volunteer work before choosing this profession... i seen lots of this with the people in my cohort. they will half ass the clients hygiene, during baths and such... even had a nurse i shadowed say "i did not become a nurse to clean up ****... let the MA/CNA/LPN/ etc... do it."

and LoL at some of these comments... the real definition for alpha male is a dude who can SQUAT (ass to grass) 2.5x his bodyweight and DEAD LIFT 3.0x his bodyweight. "do you even lift?" =)

Wow, do I have to look forward to this kind of judging because I tan, workout and care about my appearance?!? I can assure you that I did not want to go into nursing because I "believed the porno".

To be honest, I'm a little nervous how ill react to the first bedpan I have to clean. I'm confident that ill make it through it, but I've never done it so who knows. If I do struggle though, I hope people aren't laughing.

I don't think anybody goes into nursing to clean up **. I didn't. There's nothing wrong with that. I accept it as part of the job and I do what I need to do. Im not planning on being in a specialty that requires doing this so no...I am not becoming a nurse to clean up messes all day. Did anyone here? No, I didn't think so. You take the bad with the good. The trend on these sites seem to be that if someone comments on something that doesn't "go with the flow" they get lynched. Threads are boring when everyone has the same exact opinion and state the same exact comment the post before them stated. Lot's of inferiority complexes. Try explaining the realities to the person to give a clear picture of what they are getting into. Lastly, when one person starts busting chops, it doesn't mean that everyone has to jump on that band wagon basically repeat what was initially said. Grow a spine people. Alpha Male? Insecure much?

Do not worry. For most people when you see how much better and more dignified the patient will feel and also how you are saving them from horrible skin breakdown and infection that makes it tolerable.
