Does pharmacy technician experience count for nursing?

Hi. I'm an lpn student now and I ran into an opportunity to enroll in a free pharmacy technician program. I just wanted to know if the experience counts towards nursing? This up coming semester I'm enrolled part time at 7 credit hours. I'll go to nursing classes on Monday and Friday mornings only. Then at the end of the semester, I have a 4 week clinical on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. So, does anyone think that this pharmacy technician (PT) training is worth it? I know it doesn't relate to patient care but is it considered experience in any aspect?

I highly doubt a pharmacy tech program will help you at all credits-wise/counting towards nursing. It would probably help you understand pharmacology better, but that's most likely about it.

I didn't mean credit wise. I meant with experience; does it count?

Experience as a pharmacy technician is allied health experience, but it definitely would not be considered nursing experience.

I bet you will ace pharmacology, the one course that keeps people from attaining that nursing dream...otherwise thats about it. I only see the pharmacy tech for like 5 mins in a 12 hr shift. They tube stuff to us from the pharmacy.

Nope, got my CPht 8 years ago, in LPN school now, it has not helped one bit.

Nope. Only counts toward pharmacy tech experience once you get a pharm tech job.

Nope, won't be seen as nursing experience.

I was a pharmacy tech and while it was not seen as 'nursing' experience during my time applying for my LPN positions or RN positions, it certainly did help my resume'. Many of the interviews I had mentioned they saw I was an experienced pharmacy tech in the past.

That being said, you need to not only be certified as a pharmacy tech but you will also need actual on the job experience.

If it were a free program and you didn't have anything going on school wise during the time frme (on break from school) I'd say go for it. But if you will be doing both the LPN program and adding in the pharmacy tech program, I say forget it and just focus on LPN school
