Remember when...?

Specializes in PICU/Pedi.

I had a mini-stroke today (I think) after I bought my class notes and saw the redonkulous amount of work I have headed for me this semester, not including clinicals. In the temporary fugue state (ha!) that followed, I began to reminisce about days of yore, when I was an art and psychology major. Those were the days! If only I had it so good now.

If you have been to college previously, remember when:

- You thought getting up to be on time for a 9:00 A.M. class was just ungodly early?

- You NEVER bought class materials three weeks before school started? I could have cared less what was going to be going on in the semester, and it was never stressful enough to warrant such measures.

- You spent most of your time hanging out with friends, girlfriends/boyfriends, day dreaming, napping, doing almost anything but studying (and still managed to pass everything)?

- You could actually have a beer on a school night without fear of passing out, from the alcohol combining with utter exhaustion?

- You didn't have to organize everything to death and schedule every waking moment for something school-related?

- You totally didn't get those people who had to get an A in every class?

-You felt sorry for those poor schmucks who were nursing majors because they had to get up SOOOO early in the morning and write care plans? :lol2:

It's amazing where nursing school takes us! Anyone else want to play along?

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

I remember when:

I didnt even have to go to class to get an A

Remember when:

You could fix your schedule so you only had classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays? (sophomore year - best ever!)

You could hold a part-time job and not feel guilty about it?

You had time to take piano lessons?

You thought taking 3 classes/semester would be easy? (3 classes/semester is killer in nursing school!)

Specializes in Operating Room.

I remember when... I could cram for a day and still get an A on A&P tests. pass/fail classes didn't involve graded tests! (Darn nursing skills lab.)

I was a biochemistry major ....

-Remember 7 hour biochemistry labs when you are struggling not to pass out from exhaustion & hunger

- Remember writing lab reports until staring at the computer screen made me nauseus

- Remember studying for the quiz for five days before hand and still failing

- Remember Mathematica?

- Two words ... Quantitative Analysis

- Remember Vascular Endothethial Growth Factor C

- Remember watching YouTube videos of the Krebs Cycle, Glycolysis, Electron Transport Chain, Pentose Phosphate Pathway, Fatty Acid Synthesis and Degredation

- Remember having breakdowns every night over physics homework

- Remember American Chemical Society Standardized Final Exams

So glad I am out of that rat race and it nursing!!!!

Specializes in LDRP.

has anyone gone from being in nursing classes, back to a prereq class with non-nursing students in it?

I feel like they are all idiots and I dont even have to show up to the class to get an A.

I remember when studying for a test...meant waking up 3 hours before it was time to take it, and cramming as much nonsence as I could into my head.

I remember when...I was soo one of those kids in the class that was like "O my God theres a test today??", that I now I can't understand at all...in my Pre-Req classes? How can you not know theres a test?? I have been studying for a week?? My how times have changed

I remember when... I would go out until 2 am, and pray that I would hear my alarm to make it to my 10:30am class...Haha now I am at work at 7:30am, 5 days a week.

I remember when... I would think it was no big deal to miss at least one of my classes a week--I mean who needs to attend Brain & Behavior Psychology class every week??

I remember when.. I would I thought a 1 hour lecture class was LONG...Haha most of my current night classes are at least 3 hours long!

O and I remember when I wanted to go out and have a beer with my friends and hang out till 4am!! Haha Now I wake up around 4:00am for work, and the last thing usually on my mind is a drink :)

My O My how times have drastically changed!! Its amazing how much better my grades are too :)

I remember when I had time to play with my kids. :/ I do now because of break but once the semester starts, I feel bad for them.

I remember when---

Stress, drepression and test anxiety was foreign to me.

- When you didn't have to try to memorize every thing about hundreds of drugs and still worry that if you forget one little detail about a single drug that you'll end up killing your patient.*

- When the bags under your eyes didn't feel like they weigh a hundred pounds by two in the afternoon. Or better yet, when they didn't exist.

I remember when:

I didnt even have to go to class to get an A

Oh yes. I certainly remember this while working on my BSEd. I had a course in which the professor announced he didn't care whether we came to class or not. Didn't have to tell me twice. By the end of the semester, I forgot I was enrolled in the class and just happened to remember to get to the final. My grade? A-. Ah yes.

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

Well I didn't go to college prior. But the 2 years of Pre Reqs could for sure be a Remember when. Like I remember when I still passed a class if I didn't get a 77% or still got B even if I got a 84.99% :|
