I failed nursing school by 1 class

  1. 0 I need some advise on what to do. I'm going to make it short and to the point....
I failed my nursing program by 2 points in the last class. I took the class 2x and failed it both times because of some things going on in life that affected my focus and commitment. Before you tell me things i already know like i should have waited to go back, i didnt....and it was my own fault. I just wanted to finish and get in the field so badly that I though i was ready when i wasnt...

But my school is now telling me i cannot re-take the class, and there is nothing they can do for me. So basically...i am 1 class away, and out of luck....I dont know what to do.

    The class is Peds/Maternity btw.

If anyone has any advise please please please help

PS. My school states that "I have attempted the max amount of units that a student can attempt." That's why I cant retake it.

Our school has the same policy, you can only retake one class in the program and you can only retake it once, the only option you have if the circumstances are the same as my school is to look into other schools and see if they will accept your credits. Good luck and sorry you are going through this.

    Im sorry, that really stinks.
Our program has the same criteria...If you fail 2 classes, you are out. I think your option is to apply to a new program and start over (or see if they will accept your classes).

Apply somewhere else. They have a policy about failing, and I'm sad for you, but you're out of luck.

I believe most nursing programs are the same. You are going to have to apply somewhere else and abide by whatever they tell you, you have to do to make it. Good luck and hope you find a way in somewhere.

    Peds/maternity was your last course?

If it really is the last course, it might be worth meeting with the dean about finishing.

My school is the same way..if you fail 2 classes you are out of the school. Period. Unfortunately one of my friends had to go through this

I'm so sorry . I know it's hard when life gets in the way. Hopefully you can regroup and find a way to start over again!

I'm sorry you are going through this but like the others said, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done if you reached the maximum attempt. My friend was dismissed from her program because she didn't pass a class but she cannot retake it. If you fail a class in her program, you are automatically out.

Might need to go to another school. I hope you figure it out a plan, good luck to you.

I'm sorry for your situation. This is a pretty typical school policy, fail a second course that was repeated dismissed from program, without much leniency. Even If you failed the last exam of the last class rendering a failed final grade you still fail the course. there has to be a pass/fail line somewhere. Many schools never round grades either so it's heartbreaking to hold a solid C then lose it all by a tenth of a point or less. If you have a tough personal, family, or health situation most schools will permit you to withdraw and re-enter later if you are in good status with grades & attendance otherwise (not so much if you wait until nearly failing/failing)

Nursing schools are competitive. You will likely have to go to another school and risk that you may have to repeat all your nursing courses & clinical rotations. Very few schools accept transfer classes in nursing due to curriculum variations. Excelsior used to be an option but now they only take those who partially completed (at least 50%) an ADN program on a case by case basis and only if the student left on good terms (failing out is not considered good terms). There may be an option with one of the private for-for profit schools as they often have more flexibility in their admissions policies, but with a $$cost.

What about switching fiields within healthcare? Many of your classes may transfer into a different program (surgical tech, dialysis tech, OT or something different)? It is a thought. Look at all of your options, not just nursing, at this point.
