  1. Being a bay area native myself, I would say apply everywhere.
  2. I live in the bay area as well and I have never heard of "RN Certification process." Most of my RN friends that had previous associate degrees were just awarded a second degree when they completed nursing school. I would take the ADN seat because here in California it is very competitive to get into ADN and BSN programs. I know people with stellar grades and TEAS scores but have yet to gain a seat because there are so many applicants with the same stellar grades. Good luck OP!
  3. Congrats and I totally agree with your message. Never give up! I have a dear friend who has wanted to be a nurse forever. It took her 7 years to get into an ADN program. She has worked jobs over the years but she really wanted to be a RN. Well she graduated last year and is working as a staff nurse in the hospital setting. It may have taken her longer than she expected but she never gave up on her dream.
  4. Unfortunately, California has one of the highest unemployment rates for new grads. I have friends that graduated last year and they still do not have jobs. A few of them are working in SNF. The others are "still looking." Two of them applied to out of state and both were hired into their specialties of choice, ER and Labor & Delivery. Good luck, hope you find something soon.
  5. I suggest applying to as many programs as you can, ADN, BSN and ELMSN. It is very competitive to get into nursing programs here in Ca and you may or may not get in on your first or second try. Many of my friends graduated in 2013. A few found jobs in hospitals and those that did not find jobs immediately went to RN-BSN programs. Good luck:yes:
  6. I agree with the others. Dust yourself off and try again. You have to have a 75% in the ADN programs in my area. Anything less than that, you are out of the program. There is no starting again next year, you have to reapply with other people, basically starting all over with the application process. OP, good luck to you.
  7. About 8 of my former classmates who graduated last June work for well-known Bay Area hospitals in CA and they still hold their former positions. It doesn't matter that they have been excellent employees at these hospitals for years, they have no RN experience, so they can't be hired. It sad all the way around.
  8. I so agree with this!! Chemistry major is very difficult.
  9. In my neck of the woods in California (Bay Area), it is brutal out here. I know so many out of work new grads who have been looking for work for over a year now. Some of them still work at Starbucks and retail jobs. But as the previous poster stated, I think it does depend on where you live.
  10. Contra Costa had 28 seats (they did their lottery the first week of April). So I am assuming that LMC will be around the same. Hopefully, they take more than 19!!
  11. Today some of the people who did not pass the TEAS V test last year are taking it over, so if they pass, those few spots will be taken thus reducing how many spots are available. They are guaranteed a spot.
  12. I went to a pinning ceremony for one of my friends and 4 students failed out in fundamentals in fall 2010. They reapplied to the same program, got back in the program in fall 2011 and they just graduated. Do not give up on your dream because if you do that feeling of wanting to be a nurse will always be in the back of your mind.
  13. A friend of mines applied to LMC, hopefully she gets in!!
  14. They only have the computerized version at LMC.
  15. I'm sorry you are going through this but like the others said, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done if you reached the maximum attempt. My friend was dismissed from her program because she didn't pass a class but she cannot retake it. If you fail a class in her program, you are automatically out.
