Can't afford nursing school

They have other start dates I'm just really frustrated and tired of waiting.

Indefinitely understand that. I think a lot of us have tales of having to delay our starting or finishing for a ton of different reasons. It's tough. But it's also part of life and being an adult, unfortunately. Road blocks everywhere.

Ohemgee! I don't think my whole tech college ASN cost even $6,000 start to finish. I would definitely keep looking around.

Unfortunately, that is not really a good reason to go into so much debt. Do yourself a favor and have patience in order to save money in the long run. Your impatience is too expensive.

Seriously, go to a public university. Take a couple of classes to bring up your GPA if you have to to get accepted. I'm getting my BSN at a public university and tuition, fees, everything usually costs around 3k or less per semester. Granted, I don't have a meal plan and I don't live on campus, but still. There are affordable schools out there!

Well although I do not have this exact problem I did just find out I cant take a loan for the summer semester because Im not "full time." So now I have to come with about $1500 out of pocket to cover my measly 4 credit hours until fall semester comes when I can take out another loan. Oh and did I mention I cant defer my loans over that either, so I have to pay on them as well :sigh:

Its obvious, you can't afford to go to this school. There are probably very few that realistically can. Try the wait list.

You, and everyone else who is up to their necks in student loan debt. And this is exactly what these for-profit schools are banking on. I worked for a for-profit school, and it broke my heart so see all of the students who didn't have the grades for a city/state school, but didn't have the wallets for a for profit school.

You will be in debt for years and years and years. You will rob Peter to pay Paul (charging everything you buy just to attempt to stay afloat with your loan payments). You will defer, either because you won't find a job, or you'll want to go back to school, and those loans will not go away. And bankruptcy will not discharge student loan debt.

I don't know how old you are, but you need to think about your future. Things just don't work themselves out as easy as you think.

It's a damn shame that certain schools are not in reach for everyone.

Is it possible to break up the five grand into cash payments to the school over the course of the program? If so, you could do that and apply for every grant and scholarship you can find to offset the loans in the long run. I agree with previous posters about being cautious about such a hefty tuition. That being said, I start at a private college in two weeks. For myself, I have found many benefits in attending the school I have chosen. It is the best choice for me. Picking a school solely out of impatience can bite you in the butt later, but if you are willing to accept the consequences of that and you think that for whatever reason this is the best choice FOR YOU then talk with a student finance counselor at your school to look into all options for covering the cost.

They have a payment plan which isn't bad. I understand impatience isn't a good reason to jump in a for profit school. Even though they are for profit they are a really good school. I'm a very logical person I completely understand the consequences of my actions but I also feel like this is where I'm supposed to be. I've prayed on my decision and God wouldn't take me through more than I can handle. I'm just happy to have been accepted.

If you're going to a for profit school make sure you do your homework right alot of profit schools around my area and still increasing, are not accredited and are just exploiting peoples desperation to become a nurse. Many of their graduates don't even get a real liscense they're just allowed to basically sit for nclex. And their transcripts are not viable elsewhere.

Education is all worth it. Depends on your determination you will get what you want.

Make sure you get real viable education.

Just a question, why not in a private university? These for profit "fly-by" schools are not so ttrustworthy in my opinion

A piece of advice, you are already going to be stressed out enough from all of the work that you are going to have to do. If I were you I would consider just waiting until the fall if possible unless you get a scholarship or grant. No need to send yourself into a hospital for stress treatment :)

While I do agree with most of what you're saying, I'm not sure what you mean by a real license? To clarify, the license is granted by the state BON, not the school. Maybe the degree is bogus (in some people's eyes) but it is enough for the state BON for them to grant the graduate the right to sit for NCLEX.

But I definitely agree on the exploitation of desperate people.
