Accelerated ADN program?
I'm in an accelerated program at a private school. The core nursing classes take a little over 15 months. We have no spring or summer break, and only a week off between semesters. With the prerequisites, the program is just shy of two years. I am just finishing up my first semester of core classes. It's accredited and respected in my area. I love my school and program. It's known for being intense, but I'm really enjoying it.

- First Clinicals; what to bring?!
Looks like everyone has it covered! And I bring fruit snacks in my scrubs. It's small and an easy quick burst of sugar if I haven't had time to eat the whole shift.- My mom died just before Christmas - advice needed
Hello... Everyone grieves differently and in their own time. Give yourself space for that. I was pre-nursing when my mother died January 2012. My brother then died in August, and my father on New Year's Eve. Over the course of that year I decided I couldn't handle nursing. I gave up. A few weeks after the death of my father I decided to keep going. I took an entrance exam and was accepted. I am now almost halfway through my program. It can be very difficult at times. When I become overwhelmed by my past and my future I take it one day at a time. It sounds so simple, but it's a beautiful simplicity that works for me. I just focus on what is beautiful for me today and get done what I need to. I allow myself to be present and recognize what I need. Sometimes nursing school is what holds my pieces together! Congratulations on continuing your nursing journey. Finding what works for you can be a very aggravating, enlightening, life-affirming experience. Wishing you peace and hope!- Patients afraid of needles...
- Scared of NS
I feel you. I actually did quite well in school when i was younger and have done well in prereqs... I start in a week. And I'm scared to death! I have a family as well and so much riding on this. Failure is a frightening thing for me. I have written a list of reasons for myself that I am posting on the wall. They are things to ease the stress, slow down my spinning brain, and keep me going. Keep at it!- No flu vax=mask? Reno
Thank you. I think at first I was very nervous and frustrated considering the possibility of having to wear a mask throughout my future career... But I really, REALLY want this. I am willing to do it if necessary. I suppose I didn't consider that I might get sick less in general. :) And hey, when I'm on my peds rotation in school I can draw smileys on my mask and get a little laugh. :)- No flu vax=mask? Reno
Hello all! I am a brand new nursing student in Reno. I was told yesterday that I will be required to wear a mask to clinicals due to my inability to receive a flu vaccine (history of Guillain Barre). I have concerns for my future as a nurse. Are RNs who don't receive the flu vaccine required to wear a mask at work at the facilities in the area? Might this impede my ability to find work in the future? Thanks!- Can't afford nursing school
Is it possible to break up the five grand into cash payments to the school over the course of the program? If so, you could do that and apply for every grant and scholarship you can find to offset the loans in the long run. I agree with previous posters about being cautious about such a hefty tuition. That being said, I start at a private college in two weeks. For myself, I have found many benefits in attending the school I have chosen. It is the best choice for me. Picking a school solely out of impatience can bite you in the butt later, but if you are willing to accept the consequences of that and you think that for whatever reason this is the best choice FOR YOU then talk with a student finance counselor at your school to look into all options for covering the cost.- Waiting on acceptance/rejection letters
I'm in at Carrington Reno! Woohoo! Trying to secure all the loans now. Starting May 6.- Carrington College Reno, NV hopefuls!

I don't believe I have gotten ahold of her either. I have spoken with Galina and made an appointment with the finance department. Maybe call the main number and let them know you would like to claim your seat in the class and take the next steps toward registering for classes? They should be able to help you.- Carrington College Reno, NV hopefuls!
Thanks for the well wishes, Maegen. Now that you know what's on the test, maybe you can study the stuff that was difficult for you and retake for fall...? Good luck to you!- Carrington College Reno, NV hopefuls!
I'll see you guys April 25 Let us know when you get that letter, Maegen.- Carrington College Reno, NV hopefuls!
