Which schedule would use choose?

I am new to this site and it's great so far..LOVE all the advice..so I'm going to ask..

2 12 hour days/week where you drive an hour each way and are able to basically choose the days you work and can pick up more time if desired with shifts starting at 6:45 a.m. or the afternoon at 2:45 p.m.

4 10 hour days where you drive 35-40 min and work 2 Saturdays/month with shifts starting at 6 a.m.

OR M-F basically 8:30-5,drive about 30 min, no weekends though some travel up to 80 miles one way and occasional over night stay required.

None of the above require call or holidays.

The first one pays about $30/hr

The second one about $32

The third on $27

The first one is hospital based, the other 2 are clinic based.......

All adult care. I am not concerned about the type of floor or clinic...just don't know what schedule is best..childcare is not a concern.

Absolutely.....the FIRST one! Hospitals give so much more opportunity for respect and advancement. You can listen to cool stuff while driving; books on cd, education, rockin music. Two days and you are free the rest! And more days when you want..yay! More cash! ?Clinics are sort of a go nowhere job. Hospitals will usually pay for higher education. You learn more. Even if you work less hours at a job, but more days...you are more chained to the job. The best idea as an RN is to be your own boss.....eventually getting enough education, experience and clout to be a free agent. So wonderful to have so many choices!!! YAY!

I would pick the first job because you can work more hours and still have a stretch of days to make a mini vacation out of your week. Actually this is my schedule right now!:yeah:So this will open more options for you on days that you are off what you want to do with it. Currently, I am going back to school to get my FNP!:D:redbeathe

My choice would be the first. I drive 40 minutes now and work straight 8 for .5. I would love to work 2 12's and have the rest of my time be mine.

I agree with everyone else. The first one! I'm trying to get into a hospital where I can work 12's rather than M-F 815-530. Blah!

I would definitely choose the first one. If someone can keep your kids overnight, some hospitals actually offer you places where you can sleep for free or at little cost if you stay at least an hour away from the hospital. That would save you 2 hours in travel time and gas money too.

I'm new here... entertaining the thought of returning to school to do some post-baccalaurate work to enter nursing. Do nurses get to choose their own schedules??? It should go without saying by reading this post, but I'm still uncertain as to how that works.

I'm the only one that would pick the second one. lol You couldn't pay me enough to go back on the floor at a hospital. Too much drama and running your ass off. Worked at clinics and loved them. Go outpatient.

This is a very individual question. Me I would do the 2 12's and work the evening shift. I am NOT a morning person. If the drive is a problem and you can pick your days I would pick them in a row and just get a cheap hotel for the night.
