  1. I enjoy working my 12 hr shifts because I am able to run errands or take a mini vacations without using up my PTOs.
  2. Good luck Reeya and Jennifer! Won't be in your shoes until May 2013. Please keep us updated on your status and study tips.
  3. You are lucky that you have a very god support system=your husband and mother-in-law. I would say go now when they are young. I am currently in the FNP program and I started two years ago when my kids were 8, 4 and 2 years old. Now I have 3 more semesters to go and I am glad that I started when they are still young. Yes I did feel guilty that I missed some of their school activities but I figure that they would not remember these years very much. I will graduate when my oldest starts middle school and that is when kids need more guidance the most. Middle school is tough these days from what I was told. I wish you luck.
  4. Urgent care clinics use FNPs and ICUs in hospitals use ACNPs.
  5. Wow! Talk about unethical practice! So sad!
  6. I am not an NP yet. However, I am in the same situation you are in. I have decided that I will quit my RN job once clinicals gets too heavy. I want to focus on my studies and build my competency while I have my preceptor within my reach. Once you get your NP license, your employer will not have the kind of orientation that you get when you started your first RN job. They will expect that you know your stuff and are ready to work. Therefore, I believe that we owe it to ourselves, our families and future patients that when we graduate; we are competent NPs. We have invested so much time, energy, money, and made sacrifices already. Good luck! Keep me updated and I will cheer you on. Let's graduate together!
  7. WOW what drama! I am so glad that everything worked out for you. Best wishes!
  8. i could afford to quit, but wonder how it will look on my resume when i try to get an np job. if you could afford to quit, then imo you should, that way you can concentrate on your studies and have some family time. graduate school is stressful enough. when you apply for your first job as a fnp, the employer will only be asking you if you have prior experience as an np and not really care too much of your rn experiences. if you google job postings for fnp, they are asking for np experiences not rn experiences. good luck in your decision.
  9. So I talked to one of the instructors after lecture this past monday and she said that they are still working on the letter that was suppose to be mailed out to us this week. The students in the Adult NP program already have their letters. I am very nervous that I will not be able to find a preceptor in time because the holidays is around the corner and people are going on vacation and clinics maybe closed for holidays. I am not happy about this at all!
  10. Love my Cardiology III for adults and peds!
  11. I would pick the first job because you can work more hours and still have a stretch of days to make a mini vacation out of your week. Actually this is my schedule right now!:yeah:So this will open more options for you on days that you are off what you want to do with it. Currently, I am going back to school to get my FNP!:redbeathe
  12. I am in the same situation as you are and have been asking around. No one has the answers I need to adequately prepare. I do not want to wait to be on the waiting list of getting a preceptor when the semester starts! It is very frustrating! I have e-mailed the person that is in charge of clinicals and had not had a reply so far and it has been a month ago! I wish they would have informed us at the beginning of the program the expectations and criterias of a preceptor so if they do not have one provided to us, we can at least start our search!
  13. I am not going to repeat what the previous posters wrote but I do agree with them. I would like to add that the program needs to have preceptors for students and that we should not have to beg a stranger to have them as our preceptor.
