So in your opinion, what docs do u like, or run from when u have to work with them? Who's the nicest, or has the biggest ego? Just curious;)

The answer is there are nice doctors and not so nice doctors in all specialties. It's like saying which specialty are all the nice nurses in? And the answer again is all!

it's very true.....there are jerks in all specialties and, conversely, very nice/courteous physicians in all specialties. however, i have found that some surgeons can be notoriously arrogant (i actually ran into a neurosurgeon yesterday who was one of the most arrogant jerks - insert other word here - i have ever met!. again, it is really dependent on the physician.

Ok, at the risk of stereotyping here, I will put my 2 cents in ... SURGEONS! MOST are arrogant and do not respect nurses at all! You could call them to tell them that their patient's bowel is out on the bed and they would find something about you to complain about! Argh, I have been in some heated disagreements with those arrogant jerks! Ok, done stereotyping now...:D

In general pediatric MD's are nicer than adult MD's. The MD that is considered the rudest, most demanding & obnoxious in our unit is a pedi surgeon. But he wouldn't even stand out in a crowd of adult surgeons (at least the ones I used to deal with). Ironically enough another pedi surgeon in our unit is by and large considered one of the nicest MD's we deal with.

As a surgical nurse, I have to agree that surgeons are the worst to work with.

Oddly enough, as one of the previous posters said about the pt's bowel on the bed - I actually had a patient about a year ago that had a colostomy placed. About 6 weeks after her surgery she was at home emptying her dishwasher and when she bent over, the stoma basically fell out about another 6 inches. When she called the surgeon's answering service in a panic, he called her back and responded "What the f*** do you want me to do about it? I'm putting my kids to bed." She came into the ER and was still crying when she arrived onto our floor. He then proceeded to treat her like crap in the morning when he came in for rounds. Unfortunately he's an awesome surgeon. Bedside manner just sucks.

In my opinion, orthopods. Working in a pre-op setting, most orthopods appear to not care about their patient's medical health. They just seem to want to cut.

I would have to agree with the above. Now, I work in the world of kids and for the most part all of the docs I encounter are pretty great to work with but there is just a special something about the Pedi Orthopods--- usually quite arrogant group of folks. :smokin: And ONLY concerned about the bones!!

Did you guys ever hear that joke??

What is the Orthopedic's definition of the heart??........ It is the organ that pumps the ancef to the bones!!:D

I agree that there are good and bad docs in all specialties. In my experience though, I have found that Urologists can be difficult to work with, very particular and arrogant(?), but great doctors and wonderful with the patients.

I have found that cardiologists are hard to handle. Very stressed out group in my opinion.

Ok, after reading these posts, I have to admit that orthopods and surgeons are maybe just a tad more difficult to work with! :D
