So in your opinion, what docs do u like, or run from when u have to work with them? Who's the nicest, or has the biggest ego? Just curious;)

Specializes in M/S, MICU, CVICU, SICU, ER, Trauma, NICU.

Easiest/Nicest: Pediatrics

Worse: Neurosurgeons.

Specializes in MICU, neuro, orthotrauma.

worst - cvts surgeons specializing in trauma

best - neurologists, but i might be biased because i love that field so much.

alot of bad neurosurgeons out there. don't confuse them with neurologists though, people, because it's a whole different breed. neurosurgeons are cowboys with fine motor control.

Specializes in ER, TRAUMA, MED-SURG.

I am an ER/Trauma nurse, and for the most part, I love the MDs that I work with are great. I guess I'm just a little partial, but those are my favs. I have worked peds/PICU, and those docs are pretty nice too.

The group that I just hate to see coming down the halls, even after 19 plus years -- the neurosurgeons. I get along well with most of the general surgeons and the open heart guys, but the neuro guys? No way.

I have had one of them rip the phone cord out of the wall, and chunk the whole phone, receiver and all at me. I had another of the neurosurgeons actually pick up the PRINTER from the desk at the nurses station and throw the whole thing at my feet. He wasn't even mad at me, he was chapped at the night shift nurse and I was the closest target.

This sounds horrible, I know, but we do have one urologist that came up here from N.O. He throws a fit daily - a BIG one. We had a traveling nurse come up here from there, and she said he "washed out of the city there with Katrina." I know it sounds mean, but he is NO picnic even on a good day!

I agree with the surgeon thing.. arrogant and difficult. ER, Peds and Internal medicine docs have been the nicest and easist to work with in my humble opinion. I've heard that oncologists are nice...

I work on a surgical floor and have to second freetobeme's sentiments, urologists are the worst for me as a group and most of the ones I work with are not good with their patients. Second place goes to the cardiac docs. ENT's are usually the nicest but we do have a female ENT who is a nightmare and every one in the hospital is afraid of her, even the other docs, her one redeeming quality is that she is actually great with her patients.

Specializes in Urgent Care.

Well...for me, past history has demontrated that: 1) CV Surgeons, 2) Ortho Surgeons, 3) Cardiologists all seem to be less than pleasant at various times!! :twocents:

Specializes in UR/PA, Hematology/Oncology, Med Surg, Psych.

I get along well with the surgeons. I like that they are generally upfront and straight forward.

Specializes in Operating Room Nursing.

At my hospital the worst surgeons to work with are orthopods and neurosurgeons.

Worst: Surgeons (in general). There was a surgeon at the hospital i used to work out that was a jerk. Everyone ran from him most of the time. One evening he was doing a late consult and was in an especially foul mood. I caught him off guard and cracked a stupid joke. He laughed. Hard. From then on I had no problems with him. Sometimes you have to break their surgeon shell and find the human.

Best: Oncologists. Maybe I'm biased, but I think oncology docs are some of my favorites. I don't know if it's because of the nature of what they deal with, but most aren't arrogent asses.

Specializes in ICU.

Wow, I think I have had a very different experience than some of you. Best docs as a specialty overall I have worked with are a group of ID docs. Our surgeons (from several diff practices) are generally quite nice. Even our CVTS is nice, although he can get grouchy quickly if there is a problem. He is an excellent teacher and pts/families really like him. Granted, I have not worked with them in OR, just taking care of their pts post op.

Three worst docs at my hosp (one just left): cardiologist (rest range from v. nice to just OK), GP, and an anesthesiologist.

Specializes in ED, LTC, ICU.

The cardiologists I know are rude and have awful bedside manners.
