What I learned this week (6/27)...

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Specializes in critical care.

1. Don't go to the hospital code blue during shift change.

2. Not all shaky benzo-wanting 36-year olds are actually benzo-abusers. (Still, pee in the damn cup.)

3. No all drunk chest pains are alcoholics. (Still, WAS scale.)

4. For now on, if a family member has my extension, I will turn it off and get a new one.

5. I have family members who think HIPAA doesn't count if they ask. (It's okay. I don't need a job.)

6. My coworkers value me!!! (Yearly review this week - not one person said a single negative thing!)

7. Apparently cocaine just isn't that interesting this week.

8. Hi, Davey Do!!!!

9. This place needs Esme.

10. If your vitamin D level is 13, you will be tired.

11. I'm still tired and my "what I learned" list sucks this week.

How about you?

Specializes in ER.

I learned that the Supreme Court was reviewing a gay marriage case, and decided in favor of equal rights for all.

I cannot BELIEVE it took them THIS LONG to finally rule in on it, too. Go SCOTUS!

12. I still need to write canIgraduate back. (So sorry, love. My brain is mush and my little people are a bit....overwhelming today.)

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

Amen to #1.

I learned here that nursing women apply cold fresh or cooked cabbage leaves to relieve engorgement and help with letdown.

I learned the hard way that if I enter the wrong zip code the bank will freeze my ATM card. I guess that's okay.

I learned that the geese will fly away if they see a green laser pointer shining on the water or on the ground.

I learned that sharks feed at dusk and dawn and in areas where people fish or chum. And don't surf near a tuna cannery.

I learned how to make a delicious pan pizza in a cast iron skillet from a video on buzzfeed.

Australia's Lindemann box wine is perfection.

1. You can answer the question but ______ (fill in the blank here with a) patients, b) colleagues, c) families, or AN members) will continue to ask the same question thinking the answer will change (or the first answer really didn't apply to them).

2. One person can affect and influence the lives of many people--even virtually. It was really good to hear from Esme!

3. There are actually people who will take college courses pretending to be you, online, and charge according to the grade you want. (Person posted their offer to do so very briefly on AN). Besides this being blatant cheating and totally unethical, isn't this a recipe for the real student to get majorly ripped off? Why would anyone even consider?

4. I really, really need a vacation!

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

- I learned that no matter what kind of birth control it is (pill, implant, ring, IUD). If it has hormones I get the bad, unbearable side effects.

- That taking out Mirena on your own isn't that difficult.

- We all really missed Esme.

Bookmarking to learn stuff.

Specializes in Neuroscience.

-I learned that laundry and charting will be the bane of my existence. I hate both equally.

-The purple wipes at work will remove old coffee stains from porous surfaces.

I learned that you shouldn't eat turkey burgers in a dark restaurant, because sometimes you can't see that they're undercooked until it's waaaay too late.

I learned that the anxiety associated with change is often much scarier than the change itself (I'm in the process of changing jobs)

Oh, man, I have a TERRIBLY suspicious feeling about restaurants too dimly lit to adequately inspect what I'm about to eat.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.
