At my hospital ,they are thinking of making everyone go to uniform colors....Like green for ICU, purple for telemetry etc.
Obstetrics and surgery wear hospital issue.
We look nice and professional,so I ask you. If they want to force us into same color scrubs for each floor/unit,shouldn't we get a uniform allowance? The nurses wearing hosp. scrubs never have to buy scrubs.
What does your hospital do?

No uniform allowance for sure. They tried the all white command ,but it went no where. SO they allowed each floor to pick 2 colors + white as the unit's color. We chose navt, caribbean bue and white. BORING!

The good thing I guess is you never have to worry about what to wear to work.

i work ER and our hospital provides navy blue scrubs. OR has the ceil blue. the rest of the floors are left to their own devices and buy their own scrubs with white pants being the staple.
but i agree, if the hospital mandates what colors to wear then they should provide them or have uniform allowances.

I work in a clinic, and we went to uniform colors about a year and a half ago. I had a hard time with it because I had just gotten a bunch of new scrubs when I started, which was only 8 months before that. We didn't get any scrub allowance. The worst part of not getting that allowance wasn't that I had to go spend another wad of money, but that our company has given Housekeeping and maintence ALL new uniforms TWICE since we went to the uniform colored scrubs. :( It drives me up the wall! I think that if they give uniforms/an allowance to one department, all departments should get some compensation. Any other thoughts??

We don't have a "color code". we can wear any color we like as long as it is clean and professional looking

We're supposed to wear white and navy but no one follows it. As a matter of fact, the uniform shop comes to the hospital and sets up shop about 4 to 5 times a year, they were there this morning when I left. I bought green pants, two purple print tops and a top/jacket set in a glorious black/red/green tulip print.
So much for navy and white.

We used to have a color code. But then everyone on the floor would wear the same color. You couldn't tell from the housekeeper, to the aide, to the RN. Patients couldn't tell the difference either. So now we can wear any color we want, but we have to remember to identify ourselves to our patients and do this repeatedly if we have to to help our patients.

We have uniform colors as well.
Nurses= Royal Blue
CNA\PCA\PCT- the light blue
RT- Green
Pharmacy- Purple
and so on. It helps the staff out with recognizing who is what. The main reason they went to that is because of people trying to pass themselves off as something they weren't. Now, there is no question about it.

I've worked in place that required scrub colors...i.e. white and green or white and blue. Never received an allowance for uniforms. Where I am working now I can where whatever I want. Generally I choose to wear scrubs for the comfort, easy cleaning and easy identification. I am the only nurse in my building, if I choose to I can wear nice street clothes like everyone else.

I work in a small hospital, we wear what we want. No worries about someone passing off as something they are not, everyone knows everyone. I think OB wears hospital scrubs, and usually the ER Docs.

I work in a hospital that requires color coded uniforms:
ICU - Dark Blue
Med/Surg - White
Endo - Red
Dialysis - Ciel Blue
L&D - Pink
OR - Hospital Scrubs
All Nurses Aids - Teal
In addition to that, all nurses are required to have either their title (RN, LPN) embroidered on their uniforms OR buy a magnetic badge to wear on their uniform. All at our own expense. This along with the usual name tag with that designation. And we have to wear a GPS badge that can locate our whereabouts in the hospital at anytime. In addition to a beeper AND/OR a phone. I think this is serious overkill. What does everyone else think?
