Rusty and DonMurray, I am shocked and concerned with your thinking as nurses. You see, unless you embrace monotheism, you don't even matter. Just fess up/break down and admitt you love god and envision Him/It. When you finally put your faith in [blank]. yule be having eternal life/resurrection.
It's not the fault of the god-believer to be holding themselves upsidedown. People think I make an active choice not to see god. I think people usually make an active choice not to see themselves. Be brave(you are)! Love life!

    Mario,
I never said I did or didn't embrace any doctine. I did say I didn't subscribe to any one type of orginazed faith.
I fully agree though with your statement that people have difficulty in seeing themselves and often feel the need to lean on a deity.

I guess leaning on deity is what is part of most people's culture. Some look for spiritual guidance in their lives and if that is what makes them better who is anyone to say otherwise.

getbabygirl, asked for a rate and a reply.
Now, people gave it to her, and now when they think different and write their sentiments, it's not ok?
    Strange world this is!
btw, I read the book "chicken for the nursing soul", these (as posted by getbabygirl) I left out.

Sometimes we all need a little 'positive boost' to keep us going. To some this comes in the form of a shot of whiskey, fishing, a warm scented bath, hot coffee, sex, positive thoughts/meditation, and to some... faith in a power greater than ourselves.

We shouldn't knock any of these 'boosts' in moderation...as there is no harm done. JMHO.

I must say I resent some folks who must scorn others' belief systems...the not-so-hidden message there is "I'm better/smarter/more realistic than you and don't need a 'crutch like YOU do." We CAN choose to share our beliefs without scorning another's.

My father was like this and it was no fun growing up around someone who constantly put his wife and children down for going to church and praying....

Just some thoughts to ponder for those who like to put down other's points of view on spiritual and meditative matters. :stone

A poem is simply one persons idea of something. YOUR idea might be different, or somehow differently worded, but however you do or do not like your poems written, nurses rock...Period.
Anyone who doesn't think so, probably shouldn't be one....

Poem wasn't about God. Poem was about nurses and their importance to the world....

MotherBabyRN, did I say something to offend you? If so , it was not my intention...

I'm aware the poem was not about God perse, but it did have spiritual undertones. And some here reacted negatively to that.

It was the negative reaction I am commenting on, not the poem.

It's so good to see that the art of reasoned, intellectual debate is alive and well!

You go Rusty. I love your reply. I need a mountain with a trout stream I dont believe a persons religious choices should be pushed off on any person. I do believe in God. I dont believe you have to belong to an originization to be close to God.
And I also believe God should be in the schools. And if anyone is offended for their child to belong to a school where God is at...
Let the parents take the child out of the school and Keep God in.
Sounds simple minded I'm sure to alot of folks. But maybe in this day and time we need to have simple minds and child like faith.
