I would just like to say that I've noticed a lot of 'snotty' 'sarcastic' comments to a lot of the posts on the site. Is that really necessary?? This is supposed to be a supportive, informative place, not a cynical, negative place.

honestly, i find allnurses to be very supportive and kindhearted in their responses. i rarely see "snotty" type of posts. this forum has been uplifting, helpful and professional. i love everything about it ! :heartbeat:heartbeat

Really? Everything seems so polite and restrained to me. Then again, I'm used to posting on a board full of foul-mouthed, fire-breathing moms, so anything seems pretty tame to me. LOL

I've had one experience, with someone down-talking me in the Alabama forums because I was trying to justify (1st mistake) to him why I wanted to go to a community college first, and then do the BSN bridge. Then the poster seemed to take issue with the fact that I have ADD controlled with behavioral modification (2nd mistake).

Ugh. I should stop even telling people that- there are too many misconceptions of what ADD is and what it is like, and people start treating me like I'm just a hop step and jump away from drooling in the corner and hitting myself with an inflatable mallet.

But other than that, this has been a GREAT source of info and encouragement for me.

I personally find allnurses a refreshing moment in my busy day. Between keeping track of 4 busy kids, a husband who is demanding in his own way, a job I still feel overwhelmed with and girlfriends who want to burden me with thier crisis of the week I find the support in here a wonderful break.

I may not notice the snotty remarks, because if they are there they are mild in my crazy world i call home.

dylansmama,

Not sure where you have been looking, but for the most part, this is a great, supportive site.

Okay, I will admit there have been some posts that I thought were a little snotty or sarcastic, but a lot of times, the actual question/post was sarcastic. When people post a question or comment like that, they do tend to get back snotty comments.

For the most part, though, I think the help, encouragement and support on this site more than outweighs the snotty, saracstic comments.

When you come to a post like that, just skip over the offending words, or the entire post. Or do like the above poster said, report it to the mods. That is one reason they are on here~

It's also important to bear in mind that many of us use this site to vent. We are required to be endlessly therapeutic on the job ... the stress can get unbearable. The stereotype of the angel in white with bottomless compassion and capacity to rise above verbal and physical abuse is not only unreal but unhealthy. I worry about those who try to conform to it.

I agree that a snotty reply to an honest question is over the top, not to mention unhelpful ... but frankly, I haven't seen too many of those unless it's a matter of misunderstanding the original question or its context.

All I have to say is, reading some of these posts is a matter of perception. Some people will say that your response is snotty or rude when all you are trying to do is be straightforward. I find ALLnurses.com to be quite refreshing and use this site as my daily therapy.

I agree with the OP. I have found that people on here are just ready to "pounce". Some people just like to argue for the sake of arguing I think. You have to really watch how you word things or you will quickly be attacked, corrected, or one-upped. Not everyone is like that, but some are. My husband even reads these with me sometimes and he said, "Are you sure you want to be a nurse and work with people like this?". Maybe nursing itself gives you tough skin, I don't know. But many, many people on here are very friendly and helpful. I guess you just have to let it all roll off your shoulder and be the better person.

I kinda have to agree with you. There were some specific threads where some of the responses were mind-boggling and I couldn't believe that a nurse were say such things.

Come on people, don't you know who John Lennon is? Did he say "all you need is love". Make love not war.
