Regis's view of nurses - after open heart surgery

I don't normally watch TV in the mornings, that is when my son gets his fix:rotfl: However, hubby was off Friday, so I went to the gym earlier than usual. Tuned my headphones in to Regis and Kelly because he was on the phone with her. While I can't remember word for word how he said it, the basic gist was:

Kelly: So how were the doctors and the nurses? Were you happy with them?

Regis: I had an excellent surgical team, they are the same surgeons who did open heart on Dave Letterman and Larry King. But, the nurses, they are the ones that are there for you. The doctors come in and leave, but in the middle of the night, it is the nurse that is the one there caring for you when you need it the most. I hope they find a lot of satisfaction in what they do.

I have to tell ya, it brought tears to my eyes. Almost yelled "YES" right then and there.:nurse:

My first day in nursing school, the instructor asked us why people go to the hospital. Someone said, "To be taken care of by a doctor." The instructor said, "Wrong! Doctors have offices, the only reason to go to the hospital is to be cared for by a nurse."

He probably did have good experince. Managment usually makes sure staffing is adequate when celebrities are on the unit. You get that staff person that they run you short of most shifts.

I sent a letter...this topic has been coming up a lot lately, so why don't we try to use it to our advantage? Maybe this is the start we've been looking for. Let them shine a little light on this topic, since they started it in the first place!

I hope Hollywood is listening! The docs are not there all day every day! It's the Registered Nurses! :nurse:

Off topic, but did anyone see CNN's report on interns and doctors on Sat night? The dr's sat down with a camera and aired their thoughts and complaints. Not once did one doctor comment on nurses. I saw them in the video, but they were seen and not heard. The doctor walked into a room, stayed for 5 mins and then left - with 3 nurses at the bedside. I'm thinking of writing CNN and asking for a segment on nurses. I respect dr's, but their not there at 3 am holding a confused pts hand and comforting them. And have you ever seen a dr getting vitals on a pt?
