...especially those of you in direct patient care? To the married lady nurses~ Do you wear your original band AND engagement ring to work??

I'm getting married Oct. 3 and got two wedding bands - the one with the stones, and a plain white gold band to wear to work. I work in the OR, so if I'm circulating I can wear the band. If I'm scrubbing however, I can't wear any jewelry. So it depends on the situation! :) As for my engagement ring, I absolutely do NOT wear it at work - don't want to risk getting somebody's funk in it! :)

I think I lost my wedding band degloving. :(

Ouch! That sounds painful!

No but I also don't wear it anyway. Im.not a jewelry person.

I do, but only because I cannot get it off! I think I will bite the bullet and go get it cut off and re-sized...

The only time my wedding band comes off is during pregnancy when my fingers swell. Then I wear it on a chain around my neck. I don't wear my engagement ring though, because I have torn gloves on it AND scratched my kids with it.

The thing is - I'm not entirely certain whether it happened or not. My fingers swell and shrink a lot with change in temperature. When it's cold (which, my facility seems to enjoy growing icicles on its doors), my ring fits pretty loosely. I haven't seen it in weeks. It's the only guess I've got. :( I had a cheap little Mickey Mouse ring come off that way as I actually was paying attention and it made me realize it's very possible my wedding band came off, too, while I wasn't paying attention.

ixchel, I think that Ruby Vee made a tongue-in-cheek reference to a degloving injury  Caused by trauma, normally requires surgical repair like revascularization or replantation. It was actually the initial image in my head too, when I first saw your post. I'm glad I'm no longer working in the ER ;)

I'm sorry you lost your ring!

Oh, my that sounds horrifying. On second thought, maybe my lost ring is not quite so bad.......

I wear my wedding set. I lose everything, so if I was always taking it off and putting it back on, I would lose it for sure. The only time I take it off is if I know I'm working in NICU... for them, I keep it off. Otherwise, I'm always gloved when I touch patients, so....

Just my plain band. Before I became a nurse, I wore the engagement ring at all times, too. I never take my plain band off except when I have had surgery at the insistence of the anesthesiologist for good reason. I gave it to my husband, and he insisted on putting it back on me when it was ok to do so.

ETA: Great, now this thread has a ****-ton of engagement ring ads!

I didn't respond to the poll bcause my answer isn't really there...I don't wear my wedding rings to work, because I don't want them to get gross/lose stones/just..ick. But I don't want to not wear a band, either - so I have a cheap-o ring from walmart that I wear for work.
