Nursing, is it god's work?

  1. The original poster is someone who doesfeel that it was a calling. I am asking that those who do NOT share the original posters sentiments please walk away from this thread and NOT use it as a forum to debate the issue.

This is not a new topic for debate, please, if you want to debate it start a new thread (or better yet, revive an old thread).

Ok here is a new thread.. read this..http://www.atheists.org/

I wanted to say this before...

I am not an atheist or a Christian, my spirituality is very personal and while it shapes me as a person it does not make me
any less or more capable to care for a patient in a competant and compassionate manner.

If you do not want it debated, why are you asking the question?

And what was your purpose in posting this?

    Just wondering.

I read the link. I have enough respect for people and respect (not necessarily agree with) their opinions not to truly say what i thought about it, since i'd probably run out of room.

However, as Grandma has a a simple saying for peoplewho disagree on what is and what isn't what matters of this are concerned: "don't tell me how to pee, i won't tell you how to poop". Her way of saying believe how you feel, to each his/her own.

Well since it was a question you posted I will answer the question and leave it at that. The answer is NO!

Let me ask you... do you believe doctors are doing God's work? I know some doctors who truly believe that they are God.

You gotta listen to grannies, they know best.

If the original poster had posted it on the "We Are Christian Nurses" thread in the break room rather than the "Discussion" board, it might not have been debated.

    No,
    signed God

And, jls, you have a lot of brass to tell people how to and how not to respond to this thread, whatever it is supposed to be about. People are free to post as they wish (unless you have now taken the BB over and make the rules. I think not.)

Do I think nursing is a calling? Yes. It may not be a spiritual calling but it is a mental and emotional calling. If it wasn't anyone off the street could be a nurse. Everyone has their own definition of what is a spiritual issue, that is what makes this country great. I think the important thing is that we all accept each other whether we agree or not.

PS: anything posted on this bulletin board is open for public opinion and will be debated, that is what this board is for.

Anytime you bring "God" into these boards you run the risk of great debate with the resulting nastiness that we have seen many times here. Not all members believe the same and many are passionate in what they do or do not believe.
This is not a christian based board (although there are many fine members who happen to be christian) and many members do not share the same faith. Our common bond is nursing.
Let us all (myself included) try to keep on topic and debate friendly.
If things get nasty, thats when threads get locked and nobody wants that.
    thanks,

Yes, I believe that nursing is a spiritual calling (in some ways)! And if you don't want this thread debated, why did you post it in the "discussion" forum?
