what is wrong with debating an issue? maybe i've missed something, but i don't think anyone's been hit below the belt on this thread.

Because there is a fine line between "debate" and "i think, therefore i'm right" and a few people (did not say ALL) were coming across as the latter.

Angelica, I agree with you, but as you can see it's been reopened. I see nothing wrong with friendly debate and discussion. Even if the original poster didn't ask for it. Because when you post on the BB, where the thread goes from there is anyone's guess.

Some people are more sensitive than others. You are probably like me, a little more thick-skinned.

But don't most people that debate think they are right. There shouldn't be anything wrong with saying "I'm right and you are wrong and here is why I think so......"

What some people haven't mastered is the art of stating your beliefs and feelings that you are right without being overly self-righteous and without tearing the other person apart.

Most ppl might think that. I debate, thinking i'm right to a point, for the simple fact that there are a lot of things i don't know or not sure on, depending on the subject at hand. It can be educational in all aspects.

Well i think we are mixing stuff up here,Nursing is a profession, not totally a service. Serving God is not a job,its a personal Spiritual commitment. Thus its not by the good we do that qualifies us,it is the motive behind that good that qualifies the act.So if anyone has a Godly motive for persuing nursing, good and fine. But its not just by your act God's looking at,its by your heart to.So lets not try to define the spiritual by grading it on physical terms.

    Amen,
"What we say to patients may be the last think they hear". This statement is so touching and it makes me feel like this doesn't apply only to patients in the hospitals. We might be surprised how many people we meet in the streets, malls, casinos, everywhere everyday who are in worst medical conditions than those in hospital beds. what we say to every person we meet daily should be words that if we never meet again, we will be pleased that said the right thing. words are powerful, they are life giving as well as life taking. words can heal faster than medicine and can kill faster than poison. If nurses are doing God's work, then we should know God's words- let there be life.. and there will be life in alot of patients.

We all know where it will go if anything about God is mentioned. But then again, I tend to have asinine opinions.

An interesting thread to bump, eliaswarah.

I'm inclined to do as Marie did and converse in smilies. It would be easier. But I feel God called me to be a nurse as well, and that His hand has been on the path of my career for the last 22 years. No one in my family was ever involved in health care; I am always surprised that I ended up in the places that I have worked.

That is part of my spiritual journey; I don't force it on my patients or coworkers, but if they ask I am willing to share.
