Norovirus going around!

Don't you just hate when you hear that the norovirus is going around?

It's aparantly going around rampantly in my area and have been very cautious when around those who show symptoms.

Have any of you had it?

I don't know if I had norovirus, but this weekend I was ill with a GI problem. In addition to nausea and diarrhea, I had chills alternating with hot flashes, as well as generalized body aches. 24 hours later, I felt much better. I live in Texas.

Suspected Norovirus caused a high school in Illinois to close for 2 days last week. They had >800 students of 1500(I believe) out with similar symptoms. The hospital where my husband works (in PA) has seen lots of norovirus-like illness crowding their ER and taking out the staff too!

I had a coworker out sick with GI stuff recently. She felt bad about calling off and I told her we'd be mad if she didn't call off.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I got norovirus when I worked at an assisted living facility. About 50 of our 85 residents were ill, and our administrator refused to close down the dining room even though I pleaded with him to do so. I was the last person on staff to go down. I remember feeling ghastly---chills, fever, nausea, the whole works. On my way home I had to pull over and throw up on I-5, which was rather undignified. I think I had a worse case than some because I was sick for several days. Nasty, nasty illness.

Yikes! So sounds like I have a reason to be concerned about getting it lol

Just be diligent with your hand-washing.

Fomites, fomites, fomites!

You're only going to get it if you eat someone else's poop, and the best way to avoid doing that is to make sure you're washing your hands properly every time you touch anything going near your lips.

That went thru my house like wildfire! And so many co-workers too. Bad bad bad. Lost 5lbs though lol

GI bug is hitting our ltc bad. Good thing I haven't been working for a while. Bad thing..3 of my kids have been down with it.

Rarely to I get sick. I had it a month ago. Not sure if it is the noro.

That's one way I sure as hell wouldn't want to lose five lbs lol

Only thing that tops puking alongside the road is when you are doing it at 3am because of a deadly burrito. Soon enough there are pretty red and blue lights behind me convinced I'm drunk. Fun times. :banghead:
