Newborn kidnapped from Texas hospital

Lubbock, Texas - Police are on the lookout for a woman they say kidnapped a baby from a hospital in Lubbock, Texas early this morning. Authorities say the three-day-old infant was being treated for jaundice. They say the baby girl was taken by a woman posing as a medical worker, wearing blue and flower-print hospital scrubs.

Here's another link to the story. It says the baby had a monitoring device on but it wasn't clear if it had GPS. I wasn't aware of any baby transmitters with GPS. Ours can only detect the baby inside the hospital. Also, I'm not sure how much good GPS would be. I imagine someone kidnapping a baby would likely remove any transmitter from the baby as soon as they had the baby.

The report i heard was that the monitoring band was cut off in an empty room. The strange part is the footage of this woman leaving the hospital at 1:30am. Not sure what the temperature in Lubbock was last night, but she had this big parka type coat on. Do people living in texas even own a coat designed for that cold of weather? Again, facilities were sold a bill of goods (their monitoring systems) for a lot of money before they thought things through completely.

This story just breaks my heart....absolutely breaks my heart. I cannot even imagine something like that happening.

It seems like there are more systems in place to protect clothing and cars from being stolen than infants.

Our hospital has to buzz you in and out of any pede unit, and the OB nurses are extremely territorial about who comes and goes on the unit.

We have Code Pink drills about once a month, and the entire hospital is shut down while the search is conducted. Eventually, the pretend baby is found--usually in someone's bag.

This kidnapping was very well planned, and Lubbock is close enough to NM so that someone could easily have crossed state lines fairly quickly.

I hope and pray that the baby is found safely and returned to that poor mother. She must be beside herself. :bluecry1:

Don't the bands set off an alarm if they are not properly "disabled" prior to being removed?

I can't help but wonder if the staff was lulled into complacency by over-dependence on technology, and under-dependence on good, old-fashioned security measures.

What a terrible tragedy for the baby, family and staff. I pray with all my heart that this child is returned safely, and soon.

This is the second incident in a Lubbock hospital in the last few months. Let's hope that this one ends well, as the previous one did.
