Lubbock, Texas - Police are on the lookout for a woman they say kidnapped a baby from a hospital in Lubbock, Texas early this morning. Authorities say the three-day-old infant was being treated for jaundice. They say the baby girl was taken by a woman posing as a medical worker, wearing blue and flower-print hospital scrubs.
How much risk is the baby at for not being under the Bili lights?
That's hard to say. The level of bilirubin that is "tolerable" depends on the baby's age (both gestational and days of life), weight, whether breast or bottle feeding, and any other medical complications such as sepsis, and ABO or Rh incompatibility. I'm assuming that this baby was an otherwise healthy full-term infant, who will be bottle fed by her abductors, so probably not too much at risk, unless there was a blood type incompatibility. Placing the baby in sunlight is an effective treatment for jaundice, so let's hope that the abductors do that.
I was very excited for that mother. I cannot possibly imagine what would happen if that baby was just gone. I just saw the security film clip and the baby was in a large beach-type bag and she just walked out the door with it.

Not sure what the temperature in Lubbock was last night, but she had this big parka type coat on. Do people living in texas even own a coat designed for that cold of weather?
Absolutely! Lubbock is on the high plains. Lots of wind, especially this time of year, and it does indeed get cold, including ice and snow on occasion in the winter.
Wearing a coat or heavy jacket wouldn't get a second look this time of year.
