Well got word today due to deployment of many nurses, the med-surg floor will close. They will be putting 4 beds on my unit, mother/baby for any med-surg patients. Have to come up with a male bathroom.

A male bathroom? My hubby just uses mine :)
I hope your bed control office is given some parameters as to what should NOT be on your floor....eg....TB, etc.
I work at an Army hospital. They are shutting down an entire unit because of nurse and doctor deployments. There are only 2 units in the hospital. Small hospital. The med-surg floor and my mother-baby floor. It looks like everything will be on one floor.

The WHOLE MED SURG floor is closing????? Must be one TEENY TINY HOSPITAL. and I agree, they better control who is w/moms and babies.....some patients are NOT candidates for MBU's, period, as said above, such as TB, etc.

Reservist physicians from my hospital have also been called upon. My hospital has NOTHING to do with the military.
This inevitable war sucks.

I'm from an Army town and the deployments of the Gulf War hit us hard.

The travel nurse boards are filling up with requests for nurses to fill the gaps left by all the reservists being called up.

my hospital is non military in a military town. We have many bed closures across many areas due to reservists being called.
Our GYN floor was also turned into half med surg. hope that there will be training or trained nurses to assist you. Find out ahead of time... OUr nurses had never done peg feeds, deep would care, have MRSA in one room, post op hysterectomy in another.
wish you well
