  1. I don't live in the KC area. I live in a rural town in Kansas but my son lives in Overland Park and I love visiting him. There is so much to do in that area. And if you stay off of I- 435 at rush hour it isn't too hard to drive in also.

At my hospital we treat with ampicillin. The ped doctors like us to get 2 doses in the mom before she delivers. GBS is more of a problem for the infant than mom. We keep the babies for 48 hours after delivery to observe for symptoms. Also we do blood cultures and prophylactic antibiotics on the baby if the mom doesn't get 2 doses of antibiotics.
  3. I get paid hourly. I work 12 hour shifts and get overtime after 80 hours in the 2 week payperiod.
  4. I have never used anything smaller than a 24g.sorry
  5. That patient would have been admitted to our Med/Surg floor also. The last place a woman who has just delivered a stillborn wants to be is on a floor where she will be hearing new healthy babies crying and seeing happy new families. We admit all miscarriages and stillbirths women to med/surg floor.
  6. wow! Any woman that walks thru our ER's door who is more than 20 weeks pregnant they don't even triage. Go straight to L&D, do not stop here.
  7. Boy I wish my hospital would block beds when staffing is low. No they just tell us to suck it up and drive on!

We had one who was fine when the doctor was examining him. Had a "seizure" in the hall outside the exam room which stopped when we put 2 large bore IV's in him and a cather. He responded real well to painful stimuli. Had all of us laughing at him.

I will try 2 times and then call anesthesia. I have never seen one of our docs attempt much less put in an IV but anesthesia will give it a try. I love scalp veins.
  10. Kristy that is the same that we use. SOme people refuse to wear the badge. They hate they can be tracked.
  11. We use a system by HillRom. YOu can talk to the patient over the handset.Saves lots of trips to the room when it was pushed accidently
  12. We put nothing but a diaper on the babies we have under the warmers.
  13. That is not true. I can retire with full benefits when I am 56 and I plan on it.

Our babies getting phototherapy are always inpatients
  15. I must be an minority. I have worked for the same hospital for 20 years now. I plan on retiring in 10 years. Being that my hospital is a government hospital I have a good retirement plan but have savings taken out of my check. I have calculated that I will have a pretty good next egg in 10 years.
