Maybe it's the temp in here, but i've noticed the stripe is coming off of my cap from graduation. It must have been tacked on with glue, whatever it was, there's not residue on it.

How would you fix this (i certainly do not wear it, so that's not an issue)?

K-Y jelly works like a charm.

the stripe can be tacked back on with fabric glue.

Ok, are you ready for this handy home-remedy?

When I first put on my ribbon, I used fabric glue and after a few months of sitting under my mattress, the ribbon started coming off, so I asked a professor what would be the best way to keep it on. Her response.... KY jelly. I SWEAR to God it works!

Good luck. :)

Guess i'll have to pick up a packet of it at work.

You can also take a piece of 1/2" adhesive (the old white cloth stuff). Roll it lengthwise. You can make it as long as the stripe is, or just try doing the ends.

How about a pair of very plain, inexpensive stud earrings? Maybe you could find some in the shape of a caduceus. In any case, they would be reminiscent of the "cap tacs" used in the days of yore.

A tad of fabric glue, and maybe a tiny stitch at each end :)

:) I had a 101 year old nurse (was a resident of mine)offer to sew my ribbon on my cap with an invisible stitch if I needed...but alas...I didn't tell her that I never got a cap at grad!

Then I bought one :)...however, I no longer work there...and will have to see if the offer still stands, that would be cool to have a very senior nurse present me with my stripe! :) (the reason we never got them is BEYOND me!)....

I like the pin idea too...and FYI, I went to a army surplus store to get some awesome caducesis pins...they have many shapes and styles for RN's as well as others :).

Dermabond it. J/K

According to how big the stripe is, they make an iron on strip that you place between the stripe and the cap. You get it in the fabrics section of your local WalMart, K-Mart, Target, etc.

It comes on a roll, and it's about 1" wide. If your stripe is narrow, you can cut the bonding material to fit the width of the stripe. Place it between the two layers, of your cap and iron it. It should bond the layers together.

Follow the directions on the package for specific instructions. Some types of this bonding material requires steam, and some do not.

I hope you get your cap back to looking as good as it does in your pic.

k-y or surgi-lube - at graduation, our profs had a big ol' tube o' lube (I think it was generic brand) and we all lined up to have our stripes applied - surgi-lube from work worked great when I washed my cap and had to replace the stripe.....

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

I use K-Y jelly on mine.
