Wow, I am sorry to hear that this is going on. I have applied, and applied, and interviewed about 4 times for the same hospital which is one of the few hospitals that been gracious enough to respond to my apps. They all said the that I interviewed well, and they like me, but the hired from within or they hired someone with more experience.

I am an LPN NC 3 yrs...currently work a FT job at a LTC facility that has been cutting our nsg hours since mid july....had 2 job interviews today for prn/part time positions but the 2nd place has to wait for my drug test and background check to come back before they let me know anything about if they really want to hire me and what the pay would be. I am having to find something on the side to make ends meet since my checks have gotten so much smaller b/c of the cutbacks. The 1st place I interviewed at today was nice...but the pay is almost 4 bucks less than what I make now but they offer some killer benefits and I wouldnt have to pull any doubles b/c they use agency nurses for that if absolutely needed. The 2nd place...probably pays more b/c its owned by a corp instead of county like the 1st one...but I still have a few days to decide. My boss at my FT place is not willing to work w/ me on my schedule at all and I am the ONLY FT 2nd shift nurse she has since the other 2 quit. ...I think thats why shes being so stubborn...shed rather lose the one nurse she has left rather than work something else out with me. If it wasnt for me having so much vacatioin time to use up..Id take one of the full time tracks offered to me and tell them they could have my spot.

We're in a recession. Hospitals are cutting back. Many have closed due to financial problems. Depending on the area you live in, you might have too many nurses. You might have to relocate or work in an area that you don't prefer.

I worked for a health plan for 14 years and was "rightsized." I tried the hospital route and had the same experience as others. I think some hospitals are having a tough time. I am trying to figure out with all this health reform where the new jobs will be. A health care jobs report I saw on NurseZone said the top job growth areas for nurses are in home health, schools, and physicians offices. Chronic care is expected to be big so a few of my friends from my old job are getting our Chronic Care Professional certification. While I'm working on that I'm sending out some resumes to some LTC facilities, but been there done that, but hopefully I can back into a health plan.
