Quit?
*that definatly stinks! I have been cherishing the 2 paychecks I have gotten at this job. I was unemployed for 7 months so I can relate to your situation. I had chosen to leave my last job d/t relocation. I should have held on to it till I had another one but the commute was too much. Now, I realize that I am lucky to have a job, but its a hard pill to swallow, when they mention terminating my employment when I havent had a chance to really show them my stuff. After I called HR today, I got a phone call immediately from the supervisor, they scheduled me for wound care, and computer training, however I am still not on the schedule for the rest of the week.

Quit?
*I just called HR, they said 2 weeks was the "norm." I let them know that I wasnt informed of that till the next to last day of the 2 weeks of orientation, or I would have approached orientation differently, and had come up with my own orientation program and pushed through faster. HR said well its not your job to come up with your orientation program. Now HR is going to call my nursing supervisor, to discuss what they are doing with me.

Quit?
* Yes, one of the systems is meditech and I have used an older version of it before for a year; however I never had to print all the forms out that my orientator was asking me to print out. So I kept ending up printing out all the wrong forms, and would have to hunt someone down for help. However, according to upper management, I am not even suppose to be printing out all that stuff. So now knowing that I dont have to print out all that stuff my life should be easier on the floor. *No, I cant collect unemployment because I havent been there long enough. Including the hospital orientation I have only been there 3 weeks. * They are setting up a session with their IT guy for a re-orientation of the computer. You can practice on your own time, (if the lab is open, and available.)

Quit?
We did get computer training in the hospital orientation for a half day. Most of the time was spent getting everyones logins correct, and that required being on the phone forever. Once we got the logins straighten out it went smoother. Once I got to floor they where having me print out my own mars, report sheets, admission forms, you name it. Come to find out I wasnt suppose to be doing that. I was just doing what my orientator had indicated that I needed to do. I am not sure what budget it comes out of, but they didnt look to happy.

Quit?
*I remember the days when there where headhunters knocking down my door after nursing school. Now, its like we are begging for jobs. I am not exactly ready to change my profession, but if I loose my job, I might be forced to.

Quit?
*No, I havent. I will give them a call today! Thanks for the info. As far as the computer system goes, they havent said anything other then that they are to set me up with a four hour training session, and then if I dont get up to par in a day or two after that I will no longer be working there. At this time, I would say based on my few discussions with them they are basing everything on speed. Yes, I agree accuracy is extremely important.

Quit?
Yes, it is scary out there right now. I was also told that new grads are only going to have 10 weeks of orientating to the floors, and experienced RN's have 2 weeks. I think if I had would have known from day one, that I had 6 days then I would have approached the orientation differently. We havent had time to do our check offs or anything.

Quit?
Need some advice from my fellow nurses out there. I have been a nurse for 5 years. Finally, landed a job after being unemployed for 7 months. My experience is in Rehab, and Medsurge. I started my new job Nov 2. We had hospital orientation for a week. Then I started my clinical orientation and its been 2 weeks. I was informed 5 shifts into my orientation that I had only one more shift, then they may give me two more, or they may let me go. BIG SHOCKER FOR ME and my preceptor. Basically they said the hospital wants their RNS to be orientated in 2 weeks, or they are letting them go. I never knew this was the rules, and neither did my preceptor..So, I still havent entirely grasped their computer systems (4), which has lead me to have overtime. Its been presented to me in such a way that I am discouraged by the lack of communication and wondering if it I should just quit now and heed my warning or give it a shot because I at least have one more shift to show them I can do it? It seems like there dead set on getting rid of me because they dont have time to show me the ropes. When I ask questions about their system, I either get "I am too busy," or the eye roll followed by the huffing puffing, or they just walk away. What would you do if you where me? I have already spoken to the managers on the floor and they alluded to the fact that I will be let go if I am not done with orientation in a day or so. I did document the activities of orientation and gave the managers a copy and I am afraid the staff is going to resent me once they find out I complained about my orienation.

Is anyone out there having a hard time finding a job?
Wow, I am sorry to hear that this is going on. I have applied, and applied, and interviewed about 4 times for the same hospital which is one of the few hospitals that been gracious enough to respond to my apps. They all said the that I interviewed well, and they like me, but the hired from within or they hired someone with more experience.

Moving to Phoenix, new grad frightened by recession
They do hire new grads, and train. However, i have been unemployed in Arizona for 4 months, and i strongly discourage you from comming to Arizona for a job. I have had about 5 interviews in 4 months. I have been a nurse for five years.

Layoffs at Sunrise?
I dont think its just Vegas. I live in Arizona, and I cant find a job. I have been unemployed for about 4 months going on five months. I have had a total of 5 interviews. I have submitted applications to all hospitals, and do so as jobs are posted. I think the economy, low census, and the healthcare bill is effecting the job market now. Hopefully things will pick up come October when the census goes back up.
