I have recently discovered that our hospital is SEVENTY FOUR nurses short, so the hiring process has begun again and new grad classes have been doubled from fifteen to thirty persons for each session.
I know winter is a busy time in most hospitals but I wonder what this means for the future.
I am not much of a speculator, and tend to be a "deal with it as it comes" kind of person so it should be an interesting remainder of the year.
Is anyone else seeing the hiring freezes drop and the pendulum start to swing in a different direction in their facility?

We never seemed to stop hiring. We have new grads starting fairly consistently.

Yes, we are hiring, but we never stopped, we just seemed to hire more experience, but we are still hiring (and have been all along) new grads.

absolutely not. here is south florida the hospitals continue not to hire new grads. i have gone beyond the applying online routine by visiting the hr departments. basically the say, "we are not hiring new grads, but thank you for stopping by, good luck".
i really don't like hearing "good luck". luck didn't put me through nursing school and has no influence of whether or not i can find employment.

In case somebody is interested, saw this morning that University Medical Center in Tucson AZ is hiring new grads according to an ad I saw on indeed.com.
Go check it out.

We started hiring again for our ICU's a few months ago. I don't know about new grads though. Everyone has been experienced and we even contracted a couple travelers.
