"From doctors to beautiful ladies..."

Keith Richards left a note to hospital he stayed at:

"From the doctors to the beautiful ladies who make painful nights less painful and shorter, I'm pretty much at a loss for words to express my deep gratitude"

I guess by "beautiful ladies" he means the nurses. Were all the doctors males, or ugly women, I wonder? I guess the doctors cured him and the beautiful ladies... did something.

ugh. This is why the media portrayal of nursing is so important. People pick up on these tired stereotypes of nursing and perpetuate them.

It's little things like this that are so irritating. Last week I read an article in Time magazine in which a doctor stated that nurses made great patients because we were good at following doctor's orders, a virtue that doctors lacked. So blindly following doctor's orders -which is NOT what we do- is a virtue? How arrogant.

Beautiful doesn't always refer to looks! I can't believe I would actually defend Keith Richards in any regard but the guy probably meant well. He did after all just have brain surgery, and he was most likely making reference to the good care he received.

Mr. Richards, 62, left a note that thanked the hospital staff for what he termed the "truly wonderful" care he received in the hospital, according to an article today in the New Zealand Herald.

You know he also called New Zealanders "Kiwis" and I'm sure he probably made a few other choice remarks that weren't quoted. Us nurses fighting for a better image in the world should pick our battles a little more carefully. We would do much better to go after the people with their brains fully intact who insult nurses. I think I would just smile and take the compliment.

But I have a feeling like I'm going to get flamed! :chair:

No flaming from me...I think some people need to get a life. Maybe it's cause I'm from the South, but, I took no offense to what he said.

No flames from me for this. It's Keith Richards, for pity's sake! I agree that he most likely meant well. Besides, hospital admin. has done such a good job of blurring the lines between aides, nurses, other staff that it's hard for most people to keep who's who straight, let alone someone who's recovering from brain surgery.

This isn't something to have a 19th nervous breakdown over.

Its kinda funny...I automatically assumed he meant nurse, and I felt good. Hey, he could have said the old "to the doctors and nurses" and it just wouldn't have felt the same would it??? We would be looking at it like...yep the old put the doc in front of the nurses phrase again...

Naaaaa..it was a compliment, and I think I automatically assumed it meant a kind/helpful/caring/compassionate/glowing spirit "beautiful" ;).

It was a thank you. Accept it gracefully and then laugh about it in private.

Maybe the guy never saw a male nurse during his stay?

Remember its Keith that wrote it. I am always amazed when he can string a sentence together. Now I've learnt he can write an eloquent thank you note.

Thank you notes are a dying art.
