SJRCC?

I looked at the required courses online for SJRCC and it looks as if you don't have to take College Algebra but it will give you a bigger advantage because you will get extra points just like the Chem. Not required but you can get up to 16 extra points for chem and 12 for algebra.

College Algebra is nothing new compared to the other algebras you have taken other than the fact it teachs you how to use it in real world applications which IMO is very important for a field like nursing. People seem to like to take the easy way out. If you were in the hospital or your family member, would you want the nurse that had a high GPA and went through a hard school to get her degree or the nurse that had just ok grades and looked for every short cut there was to get thier degree? Would you feel good about a nurse loading your IV with meds and doing dosage calculations when they are scared of taking college algebra? I know I wouldnt. As one teacher put it, nursing school is not looking for good students, they are looking for the great students. Sure, there are ways around it but a lot of people know those shortcut schools.

I know someone who cheated a lot through nursing school. After taking her NCLEX 4 times, she has yet to pass and honestly I hope she never passes. It will catch up to you.

I just graduated from SJRCC in August. :yeah: They don't require Coll Alg or Chem - yet. Chem will be a requirement starting August 2010 and they said they will be requiring coll alg. at some point in the future. I too have such a hard time with coll alg. but you have to have it plus chem anyway to get into a bachelors program. And by the looks of things that is the way the profession is going. Flagler Hospital recently decided to only hire BSNs. They are a magnet hospital so that has something to do with it. Nonetheless nursing school is very hard. This is my fourth time in college and this is the hardest training I have ever done by far.

By the way, the spring graduating class had a 100% nclex passing rate at the time of my graduation so the school must be doing something right. :nurse: Here is a link to the program. Good luck wherever you go.

I think they require Nutrition, which FCCJ does not. I only briefly looked over their program, but it didn't really seem any easier than FCCJ's.

Yes they do require nutrition but a bachelor program would also require it or something like it. we just graduated on the 12th of august and I think a few students have gotten jobs. I am not looking yet, we just received the OK to register for the nclex yesterday. But jobs are definitely another story for all new grads.

Oh also, they don't have a night/evening program and currently they only have nursing on the Orange Park and Palatka campus, not on the St. Augustine campus.

I applied for the RN that starts in January at SJRCC. I put my application in on the first day we were able to. How long did it take SJRCC to notify you that you were accepted into the program? It has already been over a month... Congratulations on your graduation and good luck on the NCLEX!!

I don't remember, I started in Jan of 2008. We did have our orientation on Nov. 13 2007 so I know I was notified before that. There is a lot of stuff you have to do once you are accepted and before school starts like cpr, fingerprints, vaccines, background check, physical, etc. so you do need some time to get all of that done. They will let you know one way or the other so you are not left hanging. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks...the anxiety is starting to kick in so I was just wondering!!! That is earlier then I thought though, the lady at the front desk in the Nursing Dept in Palatka said it could be mid November. I have a lot of those things already done because I am a LPN...Just can't wait to find out one way or the other!!
